playing an mpc live.tips and converse.

HeY, I love producing tracks but when people ask what I can do with this thing I want to be able to blow them away , not just show how it 's a big puzzle, follow? not to mention I really like jamming with freinds so I got a couple tricks for straight up jamming, but also seem to run into complecations with some manuvers.


So first thing I did was reset tempo and bar defaults, make auto load folders containig core sounds (drums, Scratch samples,
and some real spacey,samples. and then programs that are acually song chops, I have these all corasponding with atrack then saved . so when I turn on my mpc , it's a 4 bar loop 89 bpm's, and the first 4 tracks different drum programs.4 tracks after that are the spacy sample and so on.

I've turned my click to only in count in that's one of the things though that I wish was different, Is anyone using headphones?
I mean can you have just an earphone click? (I know read the manual!) because when we record a whole sessiion I would get metronome click in the record ing till I turned it to just count in.

now I use track mute alot. and it's a good feature, so I'll start out with a beat like 4 tracks banging! than a little spacey melody . so now im 8 tracks in my freinds are jammin along so now the break down. so from here I start muting it' time to change the groove , this is where it' gets tricky. hats, so if I started with 8th notes I might change that to 16ths to try and change the groove alittle it works if I really use hard core different sounds but if the sounds are simmular than it doesn't sound so different. I want to be able to completly change the groove! but to change the swing I would have to stop make adjust ments in the apropriet feilds then start over?

Any thought s on that? also i'd like to be able to delete tracks while playing, I've used the erase button while holding the right pad that works but not instant,

oh i'm using free jj that's probally inportant to discussion.

also would like to load programs on the fly? while my sequence is playing, you know?
do any jj's do this?

i like some of your ideas i never tried the default folder thing i need to check that out.. i jam with others using the mpc, a guitar and a loop or delay pedal with long delay time.. usually what i do is i find a nice ambient or pad type of sample instrument program.. then i add some percussion usually some african drums or latin congas or whatever... usually but not always i will start with the pad synth stuff first by playing chords on the mpc just to catch a mood u dig? throw some simple percussion on top of my loop then throw down some improvised guitar lines.. sometimes ill just lay percussion down and alternate between playing guitar or by playing a sampled instrument program on the mpc... i usually dont try to create loops on the fly with the mpc just for the simple reason of the machine not being capable of real time looping which sucks but maybe someday.... so get yourself a nice loop pedal and just explore man thats the best advice i can give....also try these 2 tricks for inspiration: think of a word from memory(that you remember seeing in a magazine or something) that really gets your attention, count the syllables in the word and try to imagine creating a beat to go with that word or set of words (if that makes sense) it should dictate your time signature of the beat you are going to drop and you can just build off of that.. second trick is to sample a jammy section from a song you really like and create an extra melody or bassline on top of the existing song, once you have that down then erase the original sample and create from scratch a simple four bar loop using that bassline as like your imaginary jamming partner. hope this helps you in anyway my fingers are sore from all this typing, peace.

need something like a "mungo sync" so u can stop the mpc but leaves some sort of master device with drums going while then load up a new kit and get back in without loosing beat.

i am makingbasic beats on the mpc, then i add some bass line with
external synth, jamming around with other drum machine, in sync,

sometimes more complex arrangements, on mpc, in pattern mode
also with diffrent external synths, delay(very useful)
i like the function to change sequences immed, it s organic ina live set...
i had good results to play around withe mpc filter stuff, with sliders
i like the combi mpc and some analogue synths.....

I don't even think about loading akai.. **** BIG FONTS os1 looks **** REDICULOUS
