Technical questions for the MPC2000xl and the MPC2000

I have started discussions with someone about having some brackets made.

I would like to know what price all the EUROPEAN XL users would consider to be reasonable for one of these CF adapters mounted on a standard 3.5" bracket without any cables.

Cheers, Nine

you dont need a holder, just sacrifice an old floppy disc, gut it, drill some holes and mount....like so 8)

Don't worry, it will...it's just a bit tricky to get the cables connected when installing it into the MPC

At 1.99 you don't really have much to lose if it doesn't!

I'll try to get some photos up over the weekend.

Looking at the picture, I'm trying to figure out where the CF card would be placed.

Can anyone tell me?

Thanks.

Here is how i did it.

Things to note:

The standard floppy drive POWER cable is very short, if you ain't handy with a soldering iron you will have to mount the adapter in a similar position pictured (I was way to drunk to even think about pulling out the soldering iron when I did this!)

I used a 20mm plastic spacer to hold the adapter in place with a 30mm m3 bolt (these are approximate measurements)

The IDE cable is a standard IDE hard disk cable, I got the cable from my father-out-law, I don't like going down to maplins and paying over the odds!

Any IDE cable will work !

To reiterate, all you need is a adapter, an IDE cable and some way of mounting it.

Buy the way the new Prodigy Album is S@£$^$&$T hot.

PS, I have some more hardware hacks on the way...........I'm just waiting on some parts to arrive to confirm they work :D

I like this one. :)
Old School look, New School functionality.
Reminds me of how dudes will restore cars form the 50's and mod a CD player behind one of those ancient radios.

Ok, I'm a little late to the party. Thanks for all the posts and pictures gents. That's what makes these forums so valuable.
I bought 5 of those for 5 dollars off of ebay last year cause I guessed they might work, but I never tried it, mainly because I
am bad/afraid of electronics work. Worried I'll ruin my gear. I never figured out what to do about making a power cable either.
I'm going to throw down a few questions feel free to answer one or all.

1. Are these hot swappable?
2. Is 1.20 the only version to use? Or 1.20 and higher? (I still have v 1.4)
3. Anyone care to explain or post a pic of how to make the power cable? (seems like you did in a previous post but now I hear the word soldering
and I start quaking with fear)

Thanks, I got an second hand MPC200XL (w/ floppy) a while back and until I can switch over to a card reader, I don't want to do a bunch of work
that I may never be able to get back. So the MPC is just sitting there waitning for me to get going. But I also have one of those 90 dollars drives
(with the red, yellow, green lights) in the even that the little drive adapters dont work for me.

I know it's a bunch, but I'm deseperate for the help and I'm a bit nooby, so please no kicks in the teeth.
Until then, back to my MMT-8.

for ur first question,,nope not hot swappable
2nd im not sure if the higher os would work or not i had 1.14
3rd,dude i actually didnt have to do a thing about the power cable(assuming you mean the 4 prong cable) mine was long enough..but honestly if its not long enough, just make the wires longer,,u really dont need some adapter..

no soldering for me,,,,the biggest pain for me was getting it mounted inside the old floppy drive..i had to do a lot of cutting and dremiling to get it right..but you can do it however you please..good luck and post some outcome pics!!!

Yeah, I would really like to use the cheap drives. But I have this 90 dollar one sitting here.
I think it's the same one MPC stuff offers
but I got it from the source a while back. I guess if the cheap ones work, I can sell the 'spensive one. Plus I'll have back ups.
And yeah just using an old chasis from a floppy drive makes the most sense.
The thing about the cable, I think it's mandatory on the drives discussed here in the past. People would have to slice
one end of a big power cable with a smaller cable...or something like that. But I guess thats not the case with these
cheaper drives.
Hilarious, if you only knew how much I have stressed over this stuff without so much as lifitng a finger to do something about it.
That red MPC is awesome. I guess you painted it and added an overlay?
Thanks for the info.
