Mpc Question

Hey, Im new to the mpc world, jusy got a 500 recently but am having problems sampling. I cant isolate sounds that i want ie: Filter. (eg: take a snare or strings off a track) all i can do so far is simply take whole chops of tracks but not separate sounds

I have been looking thru the manual but still cant find instructions as to how to cut up these samples (can only presume its to do wit frequencies or sumthin)

I am sure its somthin basic so any help would be greatly appreciate as i've hit a bit of a brick wall here, Cheers!

Its not something basic. Your misunderstanding the limitations of the machine. You cant simply extract one element from a mixed song. You can use some tricks to HELP but what your asking is not as simple as hitting record and extracting a snare from a complete song.

^^^^^^^^^ Pound is absolutley correct. #1 I try to find samples/breaks where maybe the drums are cut out of the song or catch breaks where sounds are isolated better. If something grabs me that is so dope i gotta sample it i try to "treat" it b4 it goes into the mpc with the eq's on my mixing board. You cant extract sounds from mixed audio, but you can use a technique called tucking. I will cut or boost certain frequencies in the sample and then add other samples (or my own sounds from modules) to the beat. So you are tucking those unwanted sounds behind other sounds you add. Alot of times i will lay my drums right on top of the drums in the sample. There are lots of different tricks you can use. Last week i liked a sample that had nice strings in it but there were some drum hits there as well. All i did was chop a small part where only the strings were playing and looped that part. The sample i chopped was only a little over a second long but me looping it let me play it for as long as i wanted. Just keep at it and remember to pay close attention to "complete" songs cuz you never know what gems you will find.

What I do is EQ and filter when I record samples.
I hear a sound I want, I send it through the EQ and/or SP505 and then feed it to my MPC500. I even split the stereo signal by inputing the left or right jack into the Mono L input and record different parts of the sound spectrum. Sometimes you got bass and drums on the left jack and violins and horns on the right jack.
Try to combine these methods.
