Yea. it can load and "read" those files... Are you SURE that its' playing those at 24bit/96khz or is it converting it to the
sample rate that is supported by the machine? If it's converting it, then it's playing it those rates, so any benefits are lost.
It just allows you to load it into your machine. A quick batch job on SoundForge does the same thing...
Oddly enough, most MPCs can play higher frequency rates than they are rated. Since they need to be able to easily pitch samples over a decent range, this makes sense. The 4k will gladly take 192k and higher. Of course none of that matters when you are playing it back at a lower clock rate (if your clock is at 44k, then you will only get 44k). You might get some benefit when you need to pitch down a sample to keep some extra resolution (a 96k file will play back an octave lower at 48k, whereas a 44k file will be at 22k).
If I had to choose between 24bit and 96k, it would always be 24bit. On the other hand, you can get results that will be about the same in 16 if you are working with quality normalized samples and tracking out properly. So I'm not going to sit here and argue it is necessary, but it sure nice to have the extra bandwidth to work with. The 4000 also runs in 48k, I use that a lot.

That is correct. Take a 1 second sample and you can see for yourself on the trim page how many samples are there.
