Confusion in literature about connecting HD to mpc500

New guy here deciding between mpc500, mpc1000 (used), sp404, or sp555. While researching, Saw this statement on Guitar Center's website regarding the mpc500:

"The USB port allows you to transfer .wav files and .mid files or MPC sequence files in and out of the Akai MPC500 or connect an external hard drive."

This is an inaccurate statement as I understand from reading the manual and reading posts around here. Is there a new version of the MPC software coming out that would allow this? This would be a big plus for me if true. Any thoughts?

Nope, and maybe you should write GC telling them it's totally wrong.

I wrote them. The thing is I saw this information on two other reseller sites, SamAsh being another. It appears it is coming from Akai's people.

I've never seen a female to female USB before. But I'll find one if they bless us with the capability to use it.

It sure would be nice! But I'm not holding my breath. If it were true It would make my choice much easier.

I'd suggest the 1000.
It has every advantage over the 500 except portability.
The price is even comparable used.
Portability is the only thing you need to consider.

And even the portability of the 1000 is pretty good. Its not like lugging around a 60 or a 5000, you just need a power source.
But the 500 can be taken on a plane/bus ride, to the park, anywhere your walkman goes.

Yea I think when the 1000 1st came out they were trying to spin it as portable... I think I'd find it to be fairly portable myself, it's bigger but not much bigger than the 500 really. Forget about a plane or bus though... No bats

Another thing that every one forgets is that it can also use .aiff files (Audio Interchange File Format)!

The mpc-1000 is the best unit of those!
