I never had problems with the responsiveness of the pads. I even had no problems with the 1k (unless the stiffness) , untill they died out. But I always dragonpunch the pads when I play them.

I have to agree 100% here. When I purchased new pads for my old mpc 1000 I wasn't sure that the difference was worth the money and the wait. So now, having used my mpc 500 for a while, I can feel the pads breaking in.
I mean, full credit to the lads doing amazing stuff with these pads but my opinion would be to just give it at least a month of heavy use before doing all it's stuff. Me, I'm starting slowly with the tutorials but am at the stage where 4 hours just flew by.
So my point is, no customization will replace just loading up those samples and letting fly. Some guys have produced brilliantly detailed stuff on the internal workings of this box but the best post I've seen here was how to loop a pad sample without the sequencer. For me, that is what this forum is all about.

eimer, im not hate'n, just wanted to correct you!! im just still all jangled from all that,. but yes, you are correct, this is mpc forums, and we are all here for the music,. now tell me something new,. come on, you gotta have sum new tricks with the 500 ur holding out on..

Sorry about the roughness, i just don't want to have another topic closed because of that shit. And about the features, I have a little surprise for later .

Just fyi...if anyone is looking for something a little cleaner than the stacked tape fix. I made 3 vertical strips from the 4 dollar shelf liner available at IKEA.

I have the dimples going up towards the bottom of the pad.

I tested the raw sensor vs the insert and I feel no difference in terms of triggering time or velocity sensitivity. The only difference is that you are simply putting your finger on a semi soft button. No extra force needed and no change to the MPC itself. I do feel like the MPC is complete now in terms of function.

It is my impression from watching the material under the pad that the dimples diffuse the pressure somewhat over the entire sensor surface. So a reduced amount of pressure averaged over the whole sensor area with miniscule clearance adds up to a nice solid contact.

I only A/B'ed against a piece of plastic record sleeve and raw...but once I tested this material I was done.

So next time you're at IKEA swing by the kitchen dept.

Even if you are someone who is comfortable with the pads as is...I still recommend it. It just feels very finished to the touch. If you sell it just take them out for stock.

Now all I need is Audio In soft thru....

I did get so frustrated a few months ago that I tried the stacked tape, but I didn't notice any difference at all.
I think my next stop is the 1000 pads after I get my midi controller woes straightened out.

I did figure out the "fix" for the crappy cursor "buttons" though.
You have to hit them in the middle.
You can slam on the edges till the cows come home but it doesn't like to register until you hit it at an angle in the middle because the physical pad that hits the four sensors is just one piece/one button.
