MPC5000 reviews, bug reports and fellow user support on the most recent standalone, hardware MPC from Akai

Has anyone experienced automatic restarts of their MPC-5000?

It occurred a few times on my machine with 0S 1.02 but I upgraded to OS 2.00 a day after it was released and it happened a couple of times after that. But since yesterday it has been doing this repeatedly. It is very aggravating, frustrating and quite puzzling.

AKAI What's up?

What do you mean by automatic restarts? Can you explain a little bit more detail so we can see what might be going on, or if anyone else may have experienced your same issue? Thanks Reggio

Well lately, when I power it up, it will sometimes go through the power up process twice before the Main Screen is displayed. Then after about 2 minutes of being on, it will just voluntarily reboot. It has already rebooted itself about 10 times today within 20 minutes.

It is definitely a malfunction.

make sure your power chord is connected firmly, on both ends.

It is indeed plugged in completely on both ends.

Have you tried to contact Akai about this issue... This maybe a defective unit... Askia and SCD, what do yall Think?

If you can call AKAI tomorrow, they maybe able to help you more especially since its still under warranty

open it up. Take the memory out and then put it back in...

back up all your sounds. Format everything (including your CF card)

Be sure to intialize the system afterwards (by holding down the erase button while powering up)

4dhz,
I haven't contacted Akai yet. At first it seemed minimum or at least that is what I wanted to accept. I was hoping that it was small potatoes and that it was a bug that would eventually vanish. But after what I experienced last night and today, I will most definitely be contacting AKAI tomorrow.

diego,

Thanks and I will give this a try right away and let you know how it worked out.

Diego,

I tried what you recommended and I am still experiencing the same problems. Definitely appears to be some kind of part failure. It has restarted today so far over 40 times. So I am just going to close it down and contact Akai tomorrow and arrange to send it back to them. Just my luck.

Luckily I got some kind of backup. I really wanted this box to work for me. I bought it brand new, returned it and decided to re-purchase it after hearing about the new O.S. 2.0. But this restarting crap has been quite annoying and I'm really disappointment so far. I 'm not sure if it was a good idea to go and repurchase it.

If I don't get this problem resolved soon, I 'm going full steam with the MV-8800.

I feel your pain bro. Same shit happened with me and the neko. Red light of death issue with the audio interface card.

However, with your issue, is an isolated issue rather than a known issue. I'm sure something happened to your machine during transit. No one here has had such issue.

Your gonna go full steam with the MV? Good luck with that.

I owned three Mv's, and its nowhere as easy to use as the 5k. The good side is that the guys over at MVnation.com are very newbie friendly. The downsides is the workflow is slow, sequencer timing sux and the re-sale value is low. If your not a patient beat-maker, your gonna second guess your purchase. But don't take my word for it...

Good luck...

Sh!t happens...that is the way it is with electronics. Send it back to exchange it for another..or get yourself an MV. The basic functions are pretty close.

What happened to your Neko Diego?
By reggio Tue Mar 10, 2009 1:21 am
Thanks guys for the support.

This is the same machine. I ordered it brand new through the GC. It didn't do this the first time I bought it. Of course I didn't keep it that long before I returned it. Someone else bought it and returned it before I repurchased it.

Hearing about OS 2.0 being released is why I decided to repurchase it.

I did contact Akai today and tech support recommended a replacement and that was music to my ears. So I had to send them the serial number and I am now waiting for their further instruction on returning it. I was warned that it will more than likely take approx. 30 days before I would receive the replacement. I'm good with that as long as I don't have to deal with this annoying crap anymore.

I like the machine's workflow and I'm wanting to dig into it some more. I am still green behind the ears with monster, but I think I am beginning to really, really like it.
