How to create drum rolls & smoother patterns.

So I seem to be stuck in a rut with stringing patterns together, they seem to end sharply and
run together abruptly.

Can anyone share some advise on how they blend there patterns together so they sound smoother?

Also how do you create those really fast drum roll's and still stay in tempo?


I have always just banged the %$#@! out & never gave much thought to how finesse
it..

You can use the Note Repeat button while the sequencer is in record mode. This will go against the TC specified. You can create your drum rolls that way and they will be on time. You should set your pads up in chromatic mode so you can play your drum rolls at different pitches which is what most people do.

Yeah note repeat I'm hip to that what about triple time roll's and stuff like that?

stutter, beat repeat, glitch type stuff that you can do with software to make some crazy efects
anyone have any idea if it can be done with the mp?

This won't help u, but I think drum rolls sounds the best when u do this without quantization.

swing the roll, change quantize resolution, go into step edit and edit/move notes, pay attention to velocity, loop only the last two bars of the seq while working on the roll and punch in/ out until you get it right ...

to get the sound smother or getting glitch effects there are plenty of ways, most to to with sound design and layering .. not going much into right now, it would be a long post.. but a hint> set up intelligent layers and set up modulation for changing the layers, .. another would be to copy the sample a few times set up different start end and loop points (use bad looppoints for pop and click) and assigning them to different layers or pads, program pads to cut each other off or set layerd pad to mono (but it depends), use one completely different sound in the layer (maybe crash/ride), try setting some of the pads to trigger on note off.., .. also the step sequencer can do wonders for rolls ... by just recording the step seq at the end of your seq thus effecting only the roll part .. etc etc.. the possibilities are endless
