Thinking about upgrading to a 5k

What's up all.

New around here.

Been looking for a place that talks about the MPCs. Glad to find one.

Anyway, I've had a 2500 for about 3 months or so. I do a lot of my music work while I'm on the road, and I'm finding limited in the work I can do on my 2500. I sample, but I always add synths on my beats. Whether it be a bass line or some keys, or other stuff. With the 2500 I need an external synth to do it, and I'm not about to start carrying one around with me. Call me lazy, I know, I know.

Anyway, the 5k is more appealing to me now that OS2 has come out and seems to have address a bunch of the issues that it first had (that's the reason I went with the 2500 instead). With the 5k I can have access to the synth, plus load akai libraries without going external. Most I'll need is a small midi-controller (waiting for the mpk25).

But now I'm seriously thinking about moving to the 5k. So, the question is - has anyone else made that switch? Is the workflow the same? I really like the workflow I have with the 2500.

Yes, the work flow is the same. The 5000 is just more advanced. I made the switch from 2500 to 5000 and love it. I have had the MPC 2000xl, MPC 2500, and now the MPC 5000. If you want more info. please visit the 5000 forum and do a search.

Its funny reading this post im thinking the same exact thing about having the extra sounds to create a complete song,im now stuck in that same debate but i was wondering how good the sounds were that are available. I hardly ever sample when im creating a beat, but the sounds i use i wouldnt consider synths. ive been using a kurweil k2vx and a triton studio but like u i would like to be more moble and crank out a beat sitting in the living room with a movie playing. I woulnt expect to make a fullfledge r n b track but i was hoping to complete some hiphop beats in one sitting. I tried to get a feel of the sounds at guitar center but they said they couldnt upgrade the store unit to op sys 2 which has a lot of added sounds, the onboard sounds that i did access didnt impress me enough to make that move

If i were to move up from the 2500 i think i would go with the mv8800. I've had allot of frustration with bugs on my Akai so i would probably try something new. Plus the 5000 doesn't have JJos.

I moved up to the 5000 from the 2500 and all I can say is damn... I'm glad I did! I don't use synths... all my shit is sampled, but it just has so many rad useful features. Not to mention the big blue screen is SOOO much easier to look at while working. It's just a more fun machine. Easy switch.. no learning curve.

And.. do I dare say that it sounds better? For some reason, my shit sounds SOOO rich pumping out of that thing... I likey.
