In my opinion there is no deal how much you chop up something, the final product is the thing i only care about. Beats can be as "simple" (and with that i mean not multichopped, more like phrase chopped) as A Tribe Called Quests, De La Souls, Commons and Main Sources beats, and I think thoose are the best. I like thoose smooth beats, with some nice loops, too much chops easily makes the beat choppy and not that smooth. But if you can make a smooth beat out of all theese samples, you are good, and I mean very good.
I think that more than 50% of the beatmaking is still finding the right samples and loops. The rest composing 'em together, skills can here be found when composing different loops/samples/songs to one beat. If you flip a sample alot or less, I dont care as long as the beat is good.
