Finally got my MPC 2000 but...

I have no idea what to do, haha. Sitting staring at it, beautiful big old 2000, i just don't know what the **** to do?

Reading the manual online gets annoying, i've searched everywhere for some kind of simple introduction video, but had no luck!

Just downloaded some drum samples, want to hear this thing make some noise so going to put those on a floppy and try that in a second.

My man question is sampling, i wanna get right into it and tear some tracks up, but i have NO idea how? I've go a ZIP drive with a 250mb zip next to the thing which i bought seperatly, seeing as i'm low on floppy's, is there a way i can put transfer samples from my PC to the drive, then to the MPC? And then play from there? (samples, songs, drum shit, etc).

Just any tips and tricks will do, literally just not sure what to do, absolute noob.

Everyone's just going to tell you to RTFM, but first thing you need to do is get an equivalent zip drive for your computer, a USB one, then you can start transferring samples.
Bear in mind any samples will need to be in 16 bit wav format or snd files.

i think u need one zip interface for your pc and one for the mp...

you can get around that temporarily but using a 1/4' y cable with and 1/8' adapter and record the drums/sounds from your cpu out into the stereo ins on the mp...

not really the best way but if u have an audio interface u can set that up to run sounds into the mp therefore taking advantage of things like eq, if u do it while the program is running... peace

Yo basicly , it would be good if you would have internal zip drive for your PC this is how i am working on it , i got my zip drive for the MPC and another one for my desktop PC , if you will copy your sounds onto the zip/floppy disc , put it to ur MPC push shift+disk load the samples and assign them to pads , but the best way is to explore your MPC on your own , i had the same problem when i bought it , i read a lot of forums , youtube videos ,and tried on my own - wich was the most expieriencing out of all

I guess it's all just a **** at first. I can't go getting new zip drives, blew all the dough on this shit right here. It's an iomega 250mb zip drive, basically i don't have any floppy readers on my computer, so i just need to figure out how to put samples onto this zip drive, and transfer them to the MPC.

Thing is, my computer doesn't pick it up for shit? There's 2 sockets on the back, one that says ZIP and another with a G symbol. It's currently plugged into the G and got that going straight into my PC. Tried the other one too and the pc restarted when i plugged it in, but still no luck, can't find it in my computer or anything. There's also 2 little switches, one next to each socket, any ideas?

Sorry for being a dumb ****, and yeah, i'll keep checking the manual before i finally get to let loose on the thing. Gonna be a long night....

My 100 MB USB Zip drive cost me a tenner (10 english pounds) on ebay.
250 MB ones aren't much more.

Also check your local goodwills and thrifstores for Zip drives. Never found a SCSI one yet, but I have come across several USB ones in the past and they usually only want a couple of bucks for them.

i'll tell you the best thing i ever did,,,,i took the pdf file of the manual to a printing shop and had them print me a copy of it,,cheap and much better to have it in front of you,,,and an even cheaper way is if you know anyone who works in an office with access to a computer and printer,,,voila...do it,you'll be happy!!!!

unless you have something on your computer you want and you have a keyboard running into the inputs and dont feel like switching cables all day..

I actually stole that cable from college a few days back thank ****, i had no idea how important it'd be, not only for playing it through my speakers (though i can use headphones as well) but that i can now sample.

I had ZERO knowledge of what to do when i made that post. I skipped the manual, i will print it when i can, but i skipped to the part of creating sounds. Bam. I feel like i know everything now, and i've been sampling like crazzzyyyy.

One more problem i need help with...

It's frozen on me a couple of times now, so i want to constantly save shit, everytime i go to save onto the Zip drive i have plugged in, or a USB, i'll rename it to say, bootsy, and press DO IT. It says the file name already exists no matter what i type in, and asks me to replace it? (all i'm saving are the samples assigned to the pads in bank A). But when i go to load something after turning it back on, i find the file i created doesn't exist, all it says is all songs etc, and when i go to load it, nothing happens, no samples on the pads.... Nothing.

Cmon pro's, help a noob.

after you rename something, a sample, seq, or anything, press enter before you do anything else, and that saves the name, then you can do whatever with it.

i went to my local college and busted into the computer lab, printed off the whole damn manual, all 200 pages, ten at a time!! way better then reading it off a computer. ive had my 2k classic for a couple weeks now and i know how you feel, you just gotta get on the thing and try stuff, read the manual when your stuck, but just put in as much time as possible on the 2k. its the best!
