Reviews and questions about the entry-level MPC500

hi,

first of all, iam from germany an my english is not so good ;)

i have a question about time stretching or pitch shifting.

if i have a sample, for example a piano sample, i can tune it with the 12levels button.

but then the sample is longer or shorter as the original sample. this is not what i want.
i want to pitch or tune the sample, but the sample should be the same length as the "original" sample.

i hope you guys know what i mean.

is this possible with the 500?

here is a video on you tube, to show you what i mean.

peace & thanx

Not as far as I know, not automatically like the 12 levels button.

You'd have to stretch a copy of the sample manually for each pitch change, one at a time.

That is a neat idea though, I think I'll add it to the wish list.

Maybe what you could do is process 12 stretched copies of the sample on your computer first, and then transfer and assign them into the 500.

I think thats pretty much the process when people make keyboard style sounds banks for use on an MPC.

you can do it in recycle, but as far as 12 levels goes, how would you go about doing some thing like that?? would you edit each sample, and import it to each pad, changing pitch as you go, mimicking 12 levels?????????? :?:

now its time to save money for a 2500 ;)

Recycle is made by Propellerhead and is for both Mac and that other computer (PC)

The 2500 is a dream machine, especially with the newest JJOS!

LOL! Sorry, was a bit vague. What I meant was, if you set the loop point on the piano sample along with appropriate decay time on the envelope, when you hit a key (while '12 Levels' is on) the sample will play to the desired length, rather than suffering the 'pitch goes higher, sample gets shorter' method of sampling.

Better? Hmm...

Ah yes! You can do this and use the Decay in program mode. But everything up to the loop point would play faster as you are actually playing the sound faster. I have done this with a dosen of instruments created on the 500. It's better to multi sample (or just use one wave) and then spread the different pitches coherent on the pads, then assigning them to the right MIDI keys. Then you can have a 4 octave instrument. If you want some drums (or whatever) on the side, just make a new progam. Good luck ;-)
