2500 OS2 license question, too late?

I've been using OS1 full version forever, first on my 1k and now on 2500. I'd like to try OS2 and XL and see which one I like better. I read that OS2 is no longer supported for 2500, so can I still install and use OS2 if I buy and install XL first? XL sounds great but I think I might like OS2 better because I use my MPC without a computer.

I know there was some discussion on this a while back but I'm still confused. Can anyone break it down simple for the 2500 users still on OS1 but looking to try OS2?

So I can upgrade to XL for $64 and then go back to OS2 after going back to OS1, right?

That should be working since passwords for OS2 and OS2XL are identical on the MPC2500.
