Help! MPC 1000 connected to Alesis DM5 (drum brain) MIDI

I'm trying to get my MPC 1000 to trigger the drum patches on my Alesis DM5. OK... so the Alesis DM5 is a drum module (or brain) for an electronic drum set I have. I have the MIDI out from my MPC going to the MIDI in of the DM5. I set the midi sync on my MPC to 'on'. DM5's audio out goes to my mixer and then to my monitors. DM5 is working because i can test the patches with the 'preview' button on the DM5. I can't seem to get the MPC to trigger the drum patches on the DM5. Any help would be very appreciated. Thanks.

tunring midi on isn't enough, you also need to select a midi channnel.

Ok. I'm guessing I can figure out how to do that with the MPC 1000 manual. Do I have to set the channel for each pad or just the whole MPC? Do I have to set the channel on the DM5 too? Thanks a lot.

You'll need to set the output chan. for your track on the MPC to match the chan. on the DM5 (ie. if you're using track one on the MPC to play on-board sounds, and track two to trigger the DM5, track two needs to have it's MIDI output chan. matched to that of the DM5 or vice versa)

I have been working on this when I have time and I still can't seem to get it to work. Can anyone explain how i set the MIDI channels on the MPC and the MIDI channel on the DM5 to work together? Seems like it should not be so difficult so maybe I am just missing some simple step or something. Anything helps thanks.
