which monitors?

i am going to buy some monitors ( my first ones) and need some suggestions from you guys.

of course i have to test them in a store but i need a rough overview.

my budget will be around $400.


i have a list of some potential models...

yamaha hs 50
krk rp5 or rp6
m-audio bx5 or bx8
fostex pm 0.5 mkII
tapco s5

for those who have them... maybe you can get a little bit into it.

I would go Yamaha or the Tapco's. Tapco's are very very underrated for the money.

Yamaha's - i have em used them to replace my mackie mr8's since my new room is tiny and they work grrrrrreat.

what about the krk rp´s and the m-audio bx´s?

has anyone some field reports?

Im positive you can find in-depth reviews and professional opinion on most gear if you try hard enough.

as was already mentioned, i would definitely get the yamahas or the tapcos. but i noticed that after that was said, you still seemed more interested in the krks & m-audios... so i think you should just get what you really want.

and on the topic of searching, you don't even need to go as far as google [which isn't far]... but you can just use the search function here... there have been WAY TOO MANY threads about comparing the monitors you're asking about... that's why you aren't getting many straight answers.

i think thats 3 for the yamahas
2 for the tapco

also with monitors you just really need to hear them for yourself if you have a local guitar center go there they will put some music on the speakers.
thats how i bought my yamahas when i was looking for a smaller replacement.

I own a pair of the Yami's but with the 8" woofer. Out of those choices I would definitely say yamaha.

that's what Im thinking...but I'd also consider bx8a's for their woofer size

I wouldn't say overrated just popular for the price the price range. But you get what you pay for KRK sound like shit no matter what especially the new ones the low end is terrible as hell.
