Technical questions for the MPC2000xl and the MPC2000

Hello,

I am doing research on the problems plaguing the MPC2000 and 2000XL's LCD display. I am working on finding the cause and possible solutions for repairing these LCDs as they are extremely expensive to replace. It seems now they are out of stock everywhere!

The displays must be fully intact, not broken or disassembled. I will pay $10 each for your displays.

I will be buying no more than five to begin. I will be back for more if that stock is depleted.

I haven't yet decided. The equipment necessary to repair LCD displays is highly specialized. I have access to that equipment, but will not be purchasing it myself. Most likely, I will give the information to a third party repair center and let them handle the repairs after doing the research myself.

i think people are going to have a hard time giving up there screens for that amount,broken or not,,,my screen is not pixelated or have lines but there is a permanent burn in the middle that makes it difficult to see around...

i been doing the same thing your doing,,,,and a better bet would be re-searching dimensions and curcuitry on replacement screens...
as a pixelated screen can not be repaired unless its in the ribbon,,once pixels have moved,they addapt to where they move to,meaning they wont move back,but could move elsewhere..

usually they r caused by heat,but here are the three main types,,

Dead-pixel:
it is a pixel that remains always black as it doesn't show any electrical activity.

Hot-pixel:
It always remains red, white or green coloured. It sometimes happens in screens that have been overheated or used for long periods of time.

Stuck-pixel:
It aways has the same electrical signal, despite of the image. It is usually shown as a bright green, blue or red spot

not saying it is impossible,but most pixelated screens that have been fixed,fixed themselves...believe it or not!!

If someone has already replaced their screen, I don't see what the problem is with the price - I'm not asking for free screens. If you have a screen and want more than $10 for it, feel free to email me. However, I want screens with at least one missing rows or columns, not "sunburned" displays.

I have a strong feeling that you are not doing the same thing. I have already researched, designed and received quotes on having new displays made. If you want to spend $500 for a new display and will order 1000 of them, be my guest. The driver is an obsolete ***** (actually two chips) and have a very unique parallel interface that is not shared by any other manufacturer. Therefore, the IC would need to be made (again), which is not a small task and minimums apply.

So you have anisotropic adhesives and heat sealing equipment and you've done the research? I'd like to know more.

LCDs problems don't fix themselves. The dead and stuck pixel problems you described above are issues related to the flex interconnect. The flex is bonded to the driver panel with relatively low-temperature adhesives. Anything from moisture ingress to oxidation to improper grain consistency of the conductive adhesives will cause failure. When you see an entire column or row affected (as opposed to a single pixel) you know you have a flex problem. Pixels don't move around on the screen, but the signals passed to them will float between conductive and nonconductive areas in the adhesives. LCDs are very high impedance devices, so it doesn't take much semiconductivity to get ghost pixels to show up in other places.

here,i'll make it more simple.....im trying to do what you are doing,,,,without spending a thousand dollars to fix a 50 dollar screen.

I don't think you get it. I don't plan on spending 1000 dollars to fix a screen. I am doing research to design a method to repair the screens for a very reasonable cost. If you can purchase a refurbished screen for $150 rather than a new one (which is almost impossible now) for $300 from VST, I think there is a good market for that.

However, as I stated earlier, I am not in the business of doing the repairs, so I would sell the technology and process to a third party. For example, the process would include machined flex bonders, a controller for testing/QC burn-in and instructions on the actual repair. You'd be looking at forking out $20-30K for that, but it's a business opportunity. As an engineering consultant, this is my line of work.

^Bingo. Nobody cares if you're an engineer or how much knowledge you have to flex about LCD technology, your business sense is awful. Why invest in refurbishing something that probably costs under $50 in materials to make from scratch? Bedouin called it, a better investment would be to find a company in Japan or China or India that can make an LCD screen to your specifications.

i totally get it dude,its a wise move,but i think u should look into another route..
