Finally back to a 4k from Logic

My 4000 was broken for so loooong! Almost a year. It all of a sudden stopped making sound, no sampling or playback from any output or input. I took it to a local repair shop and they told me that alott of the IC's boards and what not were fried! Presumably from dirty power, static, who knows.....They Qouted me 600.00 to fix.
All the while I picked up Logic, and soon discovered how "liquid this program could be in the beat making process. (along with everyone else). It is fun to make beats in Logic. But the drums are not fun at all in comparison to an MPC.


I ended up finally getting tired of seeing my MPC in the corner of my Lab collecting dust, being abused and not working. I sent it to Forat, and in a week it was back as good as new! I also maxed the ram out while he had it open. All in all for shipping there and back it was 470.00. And Im back in a effect.

The 4000 cant do all the things Logic can, but between the GUI and workflow, and the samples I choose, its my sound! And that is something that is constantly evolving. Every time I come across a drum that I mixed at the commercial studio, to hearing some new Vst that has maybe 4-10 good sounds in it. I am a happy man, back in the bang, with my INSTRUMENT.

Workflow:

I either use my extensive sample CD collection, or High Quality Romplers and resample them, same goes for any VSts I use. I resample everything, chop, mutilate and replay on pads, or stream from a singular pad, but everythings on the MPC. Its great, I want to hear a track, I just load, and play back all at 96khz.

congrats!, good move ... I for one for the life of me can't get into pc's at all... yhea their good for processing files and have some amazing features .. they are a huge time saver in many aspects like browsing, loading, re-pitch and time-stretching and they are great if you want to run long vocal takes in sync ect ... but for sampling ,making beats and sequencing the 4k is king!.. no comparison really ... if there would be, I'd be on live.. but as amazing at it is .. I still use a mpc... I've ran into many producers that think that's strange, imo its the other way around

Thanks, and Thanks again. It just feels better to be back on my instrument. It feels seamless. Software is easy, and does some amazing things, but it just does not feel like the MPC. Not to mention stability. Even soft samplers are buggy and crashy. The only app thats even useable is Reason, Im just not totally convinced about the sound, not to mention the sound restrictions (no vst, have to convert libraries, etc).


P.S.
I know there are some who think there is no difference between machines and soft, when it come to swing, especially with groove quantizes. But IMHO there is no substitute for the akai sequencer and its swing settings. Its not that you cant swing Soft, it just does not swing in the same way.

Hardware sequencer tend to sound more natural but that's only because they're not 100% accurate. Software sequencers playback the MIDI data the same as it was recorded/programmed.
You will notice this when your MPC is running out of CPU power and memory resources. The sequencer will start to shuffle your notes a little bit.

I saw you speakin in another thread about the 4k and I was thinking "didnt dude get rid of his for logic?" I guess I just missed that part of the story about it being broken. Good to hear you back on it. I have been trying to ditch the 4k forsoftware since I got it but I still havent found what Im lookin for.....

Yeah, you might of caught me justifying my use of Logic, probably cuz my 4000 was broke, so sad. And even though I can be happy on soft and have had some nice singles hit radio with Logic, they don't compare to the MPC tracks I've done when mixed and coming over the air waves. I've had artist and writers tell me, that they can tell the difference in the tracks on the MPC, saying they were just more FIRE! The OG who showed me how to produce, ( I was already making beats, but there is a difference) even told me I needed it back in my life.

Good times, dude! Glad to hear you're back on it. There's SO much that Logic can do over an MPC (Hell, I've been a Logic user for nearly ten years and only recently changes platforms - Ableton Live, now!) but the MPC is just so much more 'personal'.

Love it. I'd get a bigger one than my 500 if I had the cash! Aha.

though im a 1000 user, ive kept it all in there... and I think people on computers must feel as thought theyre playing a game, where as i feel it an instrument
