You can do this with the original operating system of the 60. One sample can be assigned to pads with different start and end points on each pad - still only saved as one sample.

?!!!!! How? Is this only on the original OS? OS 2.02? 2.12? Do you have an MKII? because i just got a MKI and i get the feeling im missing some options that were on the MKII.

I will check the OS details tonight and get back to you. It's a Mk2 but they're exactly the same right?

More info: I record a sample into the 60, name it, and save the .SND to disk. Then i reload the .SND from disk onto as many pads as i want and can adjust the start and end points differently.
Now that i think of it - it could be like the SP1200 and just code the .SND with it's pad allocation, saving as separate sounds.
I'll will investigate tonight, comparing the Kb size of different .SETs.
It's possible i will have to use the icon later in this thread.

Yep, the 60 operating system 2.12 does have non-destructive chopping as far as i can tell from the .SET sizes.

But isn the mpc limited to one SET at a time? so in a way this sort of non destructive chop is useless?

I just find it hard that the old OS would have this feature. Why would they take it out of the new.

Yup, OS 2.12 you have to sample something save it and then load it from the disk to be able to sample something else.

Probably in favour of some new features. There are memory limitations to 2.12- in order to sample a new sound the OS deletes all sequences and songs.

there is a way to chop w/o using the memory, it involves the 16 levels..
