Reviews and questions about the entry-level MPC500

Hi, I'm using my MPC500 as part of a hardware MIDI setup with a synth and another sound module being controlled from the MIDI sequencer in the MPC. In the manual it says that in track parameters you can/should turn the program for MIDI tracks to MUTE (or maybe OFF)- however this isn't available as an option! I have had to create a program with no samples and select this so technically I have solved the problem but am wondering if anyone else has this problem or if I am missing something. It would be nice if it did what themanual said it would!
Thanks in advance!

Well, if I remember correctly, this never has been an issue. When you have any programs in MPC's RAM, just select OFF in Track Params -> Program, so that it transmits MIDI data only without triggering samples from MPC. I don't see the point in creating an empty project file when you actually can combine your synths and modules with MPC's output.

It may look like this:

Track01 - Program01 - Drums

Track02 - OFF - Synth 1 via MIDI

Track03 - OFF - Synth 2 via MIDI

If it doesn't work then I might have misunderstood your setup or anything... :)

When you push "track" and then "params" the first thing that shows up is the program select. Try to turn the dial ccw until it says off. If that doesn't work then make a new blank program called MIDI and use it when you have a MIDI track.

Brazeca, you haven't misunderstood, the setup is very similar to the one you're describing but the problem remains that I can't turn program to OFF in track params, hence the blank program, which gets round the problem.
Thanks for the info Eimer, good idea to name it MIDI or something like that and then get on with my life....
Thanks!
