Fresh for 88

I'm expecting to get heat for this, but can someone tell me where this sample/saying originates from?
"Fresh for 88"

I've heard it sampled, probably heard the original, but now that I need to use it I don't know where to look for it.

And yes I tried google but I didn't go past the first couple of unhelpful pages.

I would imagine its a BDP (Boogie Down Productions) song of the album By All Means Necessary not sure off hand which track tho.

To be honest, I was born in 88 and 'eighty-eight' rhymes with 'KC Raised', among other things, pretty well.


I'm new school,
cause I was fresh for 88
and I was KC raised
so you know I got that Raider Hate

and have the sample behind it to add depth.

that's all.

I acknowledge in the rhyme that I'm new school cause I was 0 in the 1st golden age.

I don't think there is anything wrong with the way I'm using it; although I know that the sample doesn't mean as much to me as it does to you older dudes, and some might get offended if I'm using it without knowing the true significance of it.

But there is nobody here who hasn't sampled something that they didn't fully appreciate.

Just so I'm not misunderstood, I have no issue with anyone sampling anything...
What you sample is up to you...

Where my comment comes from is a personal distaste for some cats
who claim to be "bringing '88 back', when its clear they weren't even born yet,
or were still in pampers in 88.

I don't care if you rock the Dominique Wilkens kicks with a gumby and shaved eybrows
while sporting a Troop or MGM tracksuit, but if you weren't there the first time
how can you bring it back???
