how to syncronize with tape analogue?

Is possible to syncronize akai mpc with a tape multitrack recorder? how?

And learn about SMPTE in general. There's probably devices that can turn MIDI clock into SMPTE and record it to tape somehow.

Fairly simple: Turn SMPTE on. Record a track of the SMPTE timecode on any open track of your analog machine. The tape machine will then become the master. Send the SMPTE signal to the SMPTE in on your MPC and hit start on the Tape machine. Your MPC will play from the position on the tape....IT's best to use an "outside" track (1 or 24) for your timecode as many old tape machines have a fairly prominent crosstalk and the SMPTE will bleed onto the next track over...

wow - that's great. i didn't realise the mpc could use time code. opens up some possibilities.

damn, the newer models don't have timecode. but i guess you can just treat your mpc as a tape machine and lay down a timecode on one track. don't think that'll help synching with a tape machine. but you can use it to synch to older instruments with timecode.

I heard that DJ Premier used the SMPTE sync sound in some tracks...but I don't know what it sounds like, so I could never figure what tracks? I guess the ringing that he uses at the beginning of some tracks?
