mpc to mpd?

i have a mpc 500 on the way..and i was using a mc 808 midid to a mpd so i can play shit out using the 16 mpc pads...now i got a 500 on the way i would be wantig to do the same...the mpc has 12 pads and the mpd has 16 full sized pads...can i just midi them up the same way i did the 808 midi out mpd to midi in mpc and be able to use the mpd to play out my mpcs sounds n shit?..but id also wanna hook up my midi keyboard to the mpc as well..how could i hook everything up together?

In short, yes you can. It works just fine - MIDI out of MPD to MIDI in of MPC. Sorted.

To connect both, you'll probably need some kind of MIDI merge box as neither the MPD or the 500 have a MIDI THRU option.

the 500 has thru, the out port doubles as thru you just need to set it in the 500 options (its in mode-midi/sync i think)

Well this doesn't help. You have to get a MIDI keyboard that can send the incomming MIDI data to the out merged with the data from it confused?

The 500 does have MIDI through but it wont do any good here because two different MIDI controllers must be connected at once to the MIDI in on the 500.

Just an FYI:
DO NOT BUY THE MIDI SOLUTIONS THRU BOX IF YOU PLAN ON USING IT WITH A 500!!! The MPC500 doesn't provide powered MIDI so the box won't get enough juice to work unless you buy their clunky powered adapter that fits in line with the MIDI cable. Buy the Kenton Thru boxes instead. They come with a standard adapter and are built better anyways.

I didn't know that, and neither did my mpc apparently. The merger works fine for me because it gets its juice from my BCR2000. But thanks for the advice.

After reading about it, the failure lays in the lack of 5V to the MIDI out on the mpc-500. This "lack" where made to save power (it is a battery powered unit).
