is a mixer still needed

so when i was at GC picking up my m50 i was bout to get the behringer 1202fx dude was bout to get it out to....but he said i shouldnt need it if i have a digi001 cause that serves as a mixer some what to the comp...but i see everyone with a mixer an a interface of some kind...so is home boy wrong or should i stick with the digi.

I was asking myself the same question a few days ago. I just decided not to incorporate a mixer in the home setup. Instead I picked up a presonus monitor controller. That combined with simple patchbay is fine for me. Im sure there are going to be different opinions here though. Your need for a mixer will be determined by the gear you got, the sound your trying to get and other factors.

Yeah I used to use a mixer for when I wanted to EQ my samples but I already had a DJ mixer so it was kind of **** up my steez so I got rid of it and then now if I use a mixer it would be to mixdown my shit before I dump it to PT's. It depends on what you want to do with your mixer or what fits into your workflow.

i track out everything to the computer and eq my tracks there. less equipment/wires to buy this way. iono about you but i don't have any room for a big ass mixer.

that was another reason to vote no. I used to have a mackie 24.8 although it was sweet it took up so much space that I had to let it go.

Damn really cause I am about to buy a SR24 or maybe a Tascam M-520 but i got plenty of room for it I have all my shit in it's own bedroom so no space limit for me.

If you have the room and can get good use out of it go for. When I had it I was running a LOT of gear thru it and I had moved. My new apartment just didnt cut it so it had to go.


On a side note if you DO get one get the 24.8 over the sr 24. You wont be let down!

Alright thanks for the advice yeah I really just want it to hook up my Micro Korg & MPC 8 Outs & TT and I like to mix on a board and be more hands on rather than in Pro Tools.

the mixer i wanted was only 12 channels it was pretty small...so u guys think i should skip da mixer???

Your call homie. If you feel you can get use out of it go for it. If not then buy something more suitable.

if u use the digi as a mixer, ur computer has to be on to listen to music, rite?
