It might also be useful to get input from posters who have a good grasp of what is and is not technically feasable. For example, there's probably no point in asking for the 1000's sample rate to be upped to 192K, but it'd be nice to know if it could do MTC.

We could always try nagging David Whittle (product manager at Akai US)...he posts on the MPC4000 Yahoo group from time-to-time, and seems to be a responsive and approachable guy.

Akai will take your suggestions, completely fail to implement them in the MPC1000 and a couple of years later half of them will turn up in the MPC1000XL for which they will be only too happy you to fork out another few hundred for despite the fact that the majority of said changes are software based and could happily have been part of an OS upgrade for the 1000.

bitter?

#1: port all the MPC2000XL features to the MPC1000.
ADSR amp envelopes, filter envelopes, autochromatic tuning, time slice, beat detect/time stretch.
#2: make Q-Sliders effect things in real real-time.
#3: make resonance q-sliderable.
#4: pitch envelopes (drums have them, and this is a drum machine)
#5: An LFO per program (treat it like a third q-slider as far as assigning it to filters, etc)

Alright, fire away at them. but realize they are all completely feasible and would make the 1000 a better product for both us and Akai's future users.

The Roland R70 drum machine from the early 90's has THE best step entry method that is easily represented on a small screen and fast to work in. For those who haven't seen/used it, it is similar to the grid entry in Fruity Loops. Vertical bars that show up on each step and you control the value with the data slider (Q). Once you select which pad#(sound) you want to enter, each of the 16 pads on the MPC would become an input to that step#. So pad 01 would put your sound in on step 01 and you then use the slider at the same time to set the value for the parameter you decided on. You can input any step while it's running just by pressing the pad# relating to the step. You can also zoom in and out of the measure to get different resolutions to your steps. By default it is 16th notes so your 16 pads are the 16 steps.

I'll grab some screen shots from my R70 in the studio later if anyone cares to see what I'm talking about.

Wow. Everything that jksuperstar said and also not having to unplug the USB cable when trying to exit the screen. A small nuisance, but I would use the USB feature 10x more if this was the case. If they implement ALL of these, than this machine would be SUPER CRAP MY PANTS SWEET. right now it's only SUPER SWEET. peace

for under $10 you can get a card reader on ebay or for $25 locally.. i was resistant to these things at first but i got one and seriously, it makes cf transfers a million times easier AND faster. it costs, what, about 1% of the cost of the mpc - and it makes thing so much easier it's not even funny.

In all honesty, the usb connected-while-working thing is more difficult than you realize. the MPC has a simple OS, unlike windows/MAC/Linux. If the MPC was editing files while the PC was connected, they'd have to write a whole mess of code to share the files to prevent simultaneous accesses and what not so your files don't get corrupted. ...so I wouldn't expect it to happen.

But, once your samples are loaded/saved, you can remove the CF card without shutting down the MPC...I don't think many people realize this, it makes cf readers very nice.

well, you know when you click "Safely remove hardware" in windows? I meant so when the computer doesn't have access anymore, the screen can change. there must be some other way for the MPC to know that it has exclusive rights to the card again without PHYSICALLY disconnecting the cable. i hope that's simple enough, maybe not. though it'll still be on my wish list

yeah this kind of a step editing system would be so nice to have in all mpc's. no need for any graphical changes, just having the pads zoom to steps would be awesome. maybe you'd have to hit shift->pad or something.
