2 bar drum loop and sequencing? question

Let's say I have a 2 bar drum loop that I know the tempo of. I wish to create a sequence out of just that loop and have it repeat like 8x. What is the best way to set this up? I guess, thinking out loud here, that I would trigger the pad with the loop to start at the start of the first bar in the sequence. And because it's 2 bars it "should" fit. But how in the sequence do I tell the mpc that this pad should hold to completion rather than be a one shot?

I am using a mpc1K, Previously doing this sort of thing in Acid 7, so this is a bit of a different animal for me.

Wellll, the obvious way would be to create a 16 bar sequence (increase from 2) and record your one shot at 0, 2, 4, 6, 8, 10, 12 and 14 (you can also do this in grid edit and just click record and punch the note in at the bar markers if you're insecure with your timing and want to get it right the first time).

I like to go this route as opposed to messing with loop options so I can add variations into my sequences (double snare or differentiations in the drums etc.)

Another (probably more simple) way would be to do your one shot at 0 in your 2 bar sequence, and load the sequence up in song mode and loop it 8 times.

hmmm...isn't One Shot the same as 'hold to completion'? Meaning that when a pad is set to One Shot one tap of the pad will play the sample/loop/etc through from the start of the sound to the completion of the sound. The alternative to One Shot is Note On where the sound only plays for as long as you hold the pad down. You can change between the two by going [MODE] > [PAD 7] > select your pad > [WINDOW]

You can also try copying your 2 bar loop the number of times you want it to play. I'm on the 2500 so I'm not sure if the steps are the same for the 1k:

[MODE] > [PAD 13]

In the EDIT field, select COPY

I'm assuming you want them to copy within the same sequence, so make sure the From sq and To sq are the same
Then select the first and last bar you want to copy. Sine this is a 2 bar loop, your first bar will be 1 and your second bar will be 2.

You want the copy to happen at the end of the 2nd bar so the copy will start after bar 2.
Select how many copies you want want. Since you already have 2 bars and want 16 bars make 7 copies.

Sorry if this sounds confusing. Again, I'm not sure if these steps are the same for 1k but these are found on page 29 of the 2500 manual.

Yeah, after reading you are correct, I am just used to referring to one shot as a single hit of a drum per say. Where One Shot in this context means "to completion".

Both of your explanations helped. I think I got it figured out. In step edit I placed the loop @ 1.1.00 and 1.4.85 or something like that I can't remember. The loop wasn't exact as is always the case and had to adjust. This made it sound pretty seamless between the two. From there I can build to how long I want the passage. Cool.

It's starting to make sense.
