Reviews and questions about the entry-level MPC500

Hey everyone

I'm trying to use the MPC as sort of a midi trigger I guess, connected to my computer. The problem I'm having is: the computer will receive the correct data for a certain amount of time (pitch, velocity, etc.) but sometimes it will randomly stop. When this happens, it recognizes it is receiving midi data when i press a pad, but it does not recognize the pitch or the velocity. (I monitored the midi input data through MaxMSP.)

Any ideas on what the problem might be here? I don't know if it's the MPC, if its the computer, or even the midi cable (which I doubt b/c I tried 2 different cables, both new...)

Thanks for the help

Jon

Maybe it's an issue with Max/MSP not with MPC? Have you tried any other DAWs like Logic, Ableton Live or Cubase? If not, I suggest that you try any of these to see if MPC transmits MIDI correctly to them.

Yeah, try to send some MIDI to it from some hardware devices and see if the problem remains. Some MIDI adaptors for computers sends jittered data that some units can't understand.

yeah, I've tried sending to Ableton, but the same thing happens. I have a Novation Xiosynth keyboard that sends midi to the computer no problem, so it must be a problem with the MPC, I guess.

I'm actually trying to send MIDI from the MPC, not to it. Unfortunately, I don't have any other device that accepts MIDI data (the Xiosynth has no MIDI in for some reason :P)
