i was thinking of that exact setup along with a asr. but on the subject how is the overall quality sound when you run it through both machines? how do you hook them both up? any tips on utilizing the setup?

this is how i got it hooked up:
1)str8-80 turntable to sp303
2)sp303 to dj mixer
3)dj mixer to mpc1k

the reason i got it set up like that is because i ONLY use the 303 for its effects when i'm sampling from the turntable.I also use the mp3 line in jack on the turntable to run a portable cd player,am/fm radio or cassette deck through the deck to the 303.The 303 has some decent sounding effects to it...not the best but very good and useable.

There's a few different ways to use the 1k with the 303 like synchronizing the 303s patterns with the 1k,synchronizing only the tempo with the 1k,but up until 2 weeks ago i had my 303 in the closet collecting dust, stumbled on it by accident and decided to use it with the 1k.

im jjsut curious if youve messed aorund with the 303 much on its own cuz i know madlib uses it via scratch magazine and some video interveiw on the net somewhere and he said he uses it for all his hiphop stuff does he do like full songss drums and everything on it? not like mixing and what not but like durms samples, and whatever else he adds in? i dont know if anyone knows or how good that machine is for using it on its own with a turntable because its pretty cheap and looks decent and madlib uses it so if i use it ill be jutt like him yay 8). just kidding but im just curious.

yeah,
i used it by itself for amonth or two.The sound quality is actually very good, but the sequencer is no where near as good as the 1k,and you can't isolate individual tracks if you're mixing down to to pc or a multitrack, you just get all your music mixed into one big wav file.It is a good machine but to make an album on it is going to be very, very limiting and difficult to say the least.

I had that as my main sequencer/sampler but QUICKLY outgrew it and copped the 1k.I planned on just storing it or selling it but I found a good use for it.If you plan to get this I'd save my loot and get the 1k,you can't even compare the two. It's like comparing a Benz G-Wagon with 24" inch spinners to a honda civic hatchbach.

Madlib is a different dude, almost all of his released stuff is all 303. He hands over a tape with stereo tracks on it for the mastering. He's just damn good.

i agree with you,but goddamn it must be pain in the ass to do.

the 303 has a real time bit rate selector so you can make your drums and everything else SUPER grimy (you can go lower than 12 bit i believe).

between that and the delay (i'm assuming you can sync the tempo up with the 1000 via midi) its a good companion to the mpc.

but i heard the sequencer is doo doo, especially compared to the 1000. so i would only grab this if you are into the effects, bit rate selector, etc. screw the sequencer.

just try and get one used. they aren't hard to find, and used they are like $200.

I had 4 sp 202 i just sold all of them yesterday, I had them for the longest time, i didnt like the quallity of them they were good at the time for me but they just became obsolete. pgm thats how i use to have my set up. Nice and simple. Now i just have mpc into my effects channel, my electribe into a channle, and my turntable into the stanton sk 6 my sk6 to my sk2f with My Turntable to it in one channel and my pioneer cdj1000 into the other.

yeah i agree mad lib stuff is incredible and he uses that little thing for all of it, i got the 1k but the 303 looks nice im a gear whore with a dish washign job, and im 16 and in debt to my parents for my mpc 1k, the 303 just cathes my eye for some reason, adn i want to use it by itself with the 1k as the sequencer or to mess aroudn with any where cuz they are pretty small liek the 1k but i scared to move it since i love it so much haha. but thanks im probably gonna get one sooner or later.

Madlib's new 303 stuff is more or less straight loops most of the time. It wouldnt be hard to replicate his stuff on the SP303 if you had access to his record stash. Sometimes the drums and all are already in embedded in the loop. A lot of people forget that..... or maybe just dont know.
