transfering 2k program files to 4k

Ive posted this prob up b4 but im hoping with more 4k users about these dayz some1 may b able 2 help.
im trying 2 transfer my old 2k tunes on2 the 4k so i can tidy em up a bit with its better editing facilities. (transfering via scsi/zip drive)
The problem is that the 4k recognises all the samples, all the sequence info, but none of the program info (ie. sample pad assignment, tuning, filter info, fx, mixer settings etc). This is a problem as everything i write is done entirely, sample based, on the mpc & therefore has xtensive program info which would b a nightmare to try and cross reference from one mpc to another manually.
is it an op system problem (im runnin 1.40)or am i missing somethin?
any 1 had any sucsess doin this?

I haven't had any problems loading up mpc pgm files. All pad assignments are the same as they were on the 2kxl. The efx settings of course aren't carried over. The editing functions are going to be way differrent. Firstly there's no drum mixer just yet but you can see the volume settings for each individual sound in the program menu. Hopefully with the drum mixer coming in 1.50 the efx settings will be carried over. I haven't tried to edit sounds yet on the 4000. Haven't had the need to yet. Most of my editing is done on the pc/mac before I even create a pgm. My cables came today; I'll be installing hd and cdrw tonight. My 8 outs were delayed for shipping till today and is coming overnight. (I switched last second to litepipe multi out and this caused the delay) Once this stuff is in; i'll give editing on the machine a try.
As far as editing or cleaning up your pgms; be a little more specific? What exactly is it that you want to do?

Everyone has had this problem. Format the zip in the 4k, save data from the 2000 onto that disc. now load to 4k

i formatted the zip on the 4k, popped it into the drive hooked up to the 2k, but when i tried to save it a screen message appeared saying DISK FORMAT NOT RECOGNISED (or words to that effect....... wouldnt let me do it anywayz) Does that sound familiar to any1?
Wot i mean by "cleaning up" is being able to make use of the 4ks filters, fx, graphic editor etc without having to reprogram the tune too much. most of my stuff is d&b and tight edits arent always to easy on the 2k!
Its all the fine TUNING settings (on the program page) that i use on my 2ks beats; u know.... to get em rollin nice, thats really buggin me about all this. i COULD load up the same seq & samples for a tune on both machines & then just manually cross reference and , 1 by 1, assign the right sample to the right pad. The TUNING settings would b a nightmare as the 4k's TUNING increments are much finer and the swing of the programing could easily b lost. It would b a f****** hassle but i could do it. Surely theres a way round all that tho.

How I have done this. Zip Drive 250 using a Zip 100. MPC 4000 "Quick Format" connected via usb in front. MPC 2000xl connected via scsi. Save all Programs using Wav. I got it to work the first time.

well i'll give it another go. I noticed u have/wrote 2k xl. Im trying to do it with the standard 2k. Could that b the reason im not gettin anywhere? Has any1 out there managed this proceedure on the 2k (not 2k xl)?

Gigaton; I haven't experienced the problem with the pad assignments;
I loaded mpc 2kxl pgm files and have not had that problem. Interesting I'm going to do some more poking around. I also noticed that this disk (zip) isn't 2kxl formatted. I have a couple of mpc formatted disks (old school mpc) with drum kitts that I've tried and all pad assignments were correct.

Maybe the problem is trying to resave on the mpc 2000 formatted disk, the error would definitley come up if your trying to save mpc 4000 data back on a 2kxl formatted disk. I would just stick a blank zip in the drive and after loading my mpc 2000 pgms and then editing them; I would then re-save (in the mpc 4000 format) to a blank zip disk. I'll check it out.
