mpc 2000 Boot ROM error

Hallo
recently dusted off my 2000 and when I tried to boot up with my old v1.72 floppy the system crashed. Tried making a new boot disk to no avail. Finally I have just replaced the whole floppy drive - nightmare! It's a lot easier on the XL am I right? Anyway the error message still comes up - it reads "MPC BOOT ROM V1.0" and then goes nowhere. Once I turn it on and off a couple of times trying to reset it, the same error message comes up but the image on the screen is distorted with lines all over it, kinda like that missingno. pokemon. Or a crystal castles fanvid. Has anyone else had this problem before? Will I need to get myself a new boot chip? While I was changing the disk drive I noticed 2 chips inside, one of which said something like "boot v1.0" and another was like "rom v1.1". HELP! This MPC has been mroe trouble than it's worth since I got it

it is normal that your mpc got a boot chip that means v1.0 or v1.1,it is normal that it boots from that first and starts loading the os then.
you should check the system disk.try it in another mpc.check your floppy first before replacing.get specific knowledge on what might have happened.
before you don`t know anything specific,it`s no good idea to trouble shoot by taking parts off your machine.

thanks for the reply! if by system disk you mean the floppy you need to boot up, the i've tried that: i made a new floppy first thing and that didn't work either, so i tried attaching a different floppy drive inside with both floppies as well and that was no good either, so i'm thinking it's not my boot disks! believe me i won't be taking bits off, if it needs a new part i#ll have to find that then take it to the computer shop, my soldering skills are a little lacking

Save yourself the hassle of trying to keep that old beast alive and just upgrade to a 1k or 2500 as soon as you can! The technology, whilst not cutting edge, is still streets ahead of the 2k in every department.

Well I have just sold my 2000xl for £460 so don't assume it has little value. My 2500 which I bought a few weeks back is in mint condition with full ram, a cd rom drive and 80 gig hd, all for £700.

The student loans people will throw money at you if you need it, so don't worry about them!

Then sell it and buy a 1k or 2500!

I've had another go making new OS disks, using different OS versions as well but still no results. A search on the forum came up with something about a recovery chip? Is that what I need? I have little technical knowledge so I'm just clutching at straws, really don't want to sell it, especially not in this condition since it will go for even less than I predict!
EDIT: by the way, is all you have to do to make a new boot disk to drag and drop the .exe and .sys files from your computer onto the floppy disk? then stick it in the MPC and away you go, right? Perhaps if I could obtain the original boot rom, version 1.0, it might work, since that's the message it displays when I switch it on? anyone got the file they might be able to mail me? i take it noone uses it any more though since it was surpassed over a decade ago haha
