I always told myself I would never sample mp3s but....

I only saw one other dude that said he actually likes owning the records , being able to read the cover , see who played what etc . All of this is REAL . Why do dudes swear buying vinyl is so expensive ? I found Esther Marrow "Sister Woman " today for $1.97 ( vg++ too ! ) at the thrift store . Put in the WORK = find the HEAT I enjoy music in every medium but when it comes to sampling , 98% of the time , it's vinyl for me . You know what ! I guess I've found so much good shit for cheap , I dont have any excuses ! And like somebody else said , the bottom line with those mp3's is youre only getting what somebody is willing to give , those cats who put the music up still got a whole nother stash of gems that you could have too if you digged .

You make a good point about owning the music, I'm not that way with vinyl, but with cds. I like to have the art, and read all the credits.

I'll be honest and tell that I'm e-digging too. But if I make something nice out of it, I next into always dig the album and buy it. But alot of times the stuff I make aint good enough, and I'm glad I saved myself some money.

Unfortunately I dont have the money to buy too much vinyl, the vinyls I own are just the super dope ones. Alot of crate diggers just buys vinyl just because to dig, and using like 5-10% of all the vinyls they bought.

But as I said earlier, if I make something great from a internet dig, I'll definitely go and buy it. But thats me...

And sometimes there are stuff that aint on the internet, rare to see in Sweden though. Then I'll defintely give it a try after a short listen in the record store.

But! Alot of times I come across stuff on the net I've never seen in a record shop...two sides to that coin!

word up cos even thou u gettin a record for 1.50 most of them may be junk so rather get some shit on-line I see no reason to buy a record that that i already have on my hard drive just wanna enjoy the music and make some ill shit.

I also know a good place in Leiden where they have like 10.000's of records. I mean real good stuff. It's owned by the owner of The Velvet (rozengracht?). They go for 2,50 euro a record.

For me, I never liked mp3. I need to be able to touch and feel stuff, reading the covers, who produced it, who played what, where recorded etc.
Just love to get a record, put it on the table, hear all the noises and stuff.
Can't explain, vinyl is a must in my life. Just like having an mpc to be able to make beats.

I'm a digger, and I sample off of internet sources too, because avoiding a format that has samples that don't exist anywhere else is a bad idea.

But vinyl is one of those formats.

Avoiding the net isn't a good idea. Avoiding the crates isn't a good idea.

I'm saying the internet has things that my local record spots don't, but I guarantee that my own collection has lots of things that aren't online. You gotta hit everything.

I'm not going to hate on online digging but you gotta dig the crates too. It's the most fun, rewarding (finding a physical copy of something dope is a great feeling) and financially benefiting of all of the types of digging anyway.

Then again, I am blessed with digging spots, so maybe that influences my thinking.

There's alot of shitty quality mp3's on the net so if your gonna sample sumthin listen real closely in headphones.

i didn't read this whole thread, but i read alot. I buy lots of records, my grandma and mom are thrift store/garage sale fiends so they always buy a few here and there for me too. But i do not limit myself to that, you wouldn't believe how many times i have been lurking on myspace and gone to some babes page to lurk more, and heard a good intro to some soft song, and sampled it. Hip hop isn't about who can get the rarest vinyl, its about what you do with the sounds you do have. Like krs said, in the time of the "ringtone rapper" the real hip hop artist, would be taking that shitty default ringtone that came on the phone, sampling it, and doing something crazy with it. Its not about where it came from.
