hello peeps,

in OS2XL is pattern becoming a waste of space?
the tune function has disappeared along with chop and filter?
and why can't it output to midi?
OS 2 still had these functions and it was great.
where is jj going with this?

getting a bit feed up with features being crippled and not being improved.
there really is a lot of potential being wasted with pattern.

it could have been like a step sequencer for both MIDI & samples
instead of just a kinda useful quantise template.
come on jj where's that creativeness gone? your makin pattern very boring! zzzzzZZZZzzz

anyone have a copies of the early versions of OS2 when pattern got introduced?
i'd like to see what else has gone bye bye, since then.

cheers

Agree, although I wouldn't call it a waste of space now. I'm a big fan of using the VIEW mode to edit one bar at a time. And if he cut out anything, better pitch than the other three parameters.

My biggest gripe with PATTERN/VIEW in 2XL is that it's complete GARBAGE if you're using simult pads. Try it... terrible, worthless.

would have thought/hope he would not have to cut anything out ...

its a pain. filter i can understand, since filter has also changed in xl (not as good to my mind!) but chop could be useful. tune is sort of there in the background - ie if you edit a new pattern (nos 20 and beyond) and also edit the tune parameters normally, it saves the tune changes to the pattern also - still not got my head round how it works. its like the tune option is still being recorded, its just not visible

don't understand the output to midi not working - ok, so you have to be in drum edit, but just chose no drum program and set the midi channel and it works.

I'm slightly puzzled by this feature.
Can I use it to create a pattern from scratch?
I.e:
1- I create a drum pattern for the kick
2- then I create a different one for the hihat on top of it
Then I close the pattern view et voila' my pattern is there!

Can I do something like this?
If so how, as it looks like I'm missing something.

I'm on JJOS2XL on MPC1000.

...and view is not working with other timesignatures. there are obvious bugs and problems. and jj is working on his stoneage sequencer.

I miss the loop made in patter mode. Other than that I still use it to edit my drums when I got alot going on in one track.
The real time swing is fun also.

I bought a mpc-1000 a month ago and instantly slammed JJOS 2XL on it. I got curious about the hype about OS 2 and tried it. Now i have abandoned 2XL because os the X0X'like funcion the os 2 classic got. I love pattern mode with chop and pitch and stuff. LOVE it!!

seriously. makes no sense.

I'm not buying a sequencer for a computer that makes beats for my MPC. Thats why my MPC has a interface :D

for creating basslines it was great...maybe jj should cut off the pattern mode turn it into a trackmode
after arp and chord maybe patterntrack???
the pattern track:
should be used with midi out or load a single sample up to it...
but with tune function is a must!!!!
that could be bring all the hardware step sequencer out of business ..

maybe we should define which functions the new pattern track should have and tell jj about it...

Maybe peeps want too much.

Maybe he had to cut out features to incorporate other features cause he ran outta room in the os.

He said that before didn't he?!?!

Apparently the previous os file size limit was around 1meg but jj has found a way of increasing this to 5. I agree though, people do probably want too much and features are getting piled on top of other features, and it's not always obvious to the casual user how all these things work.
