Connecting Keyboard To MPC WITHOUT Mixer

I have a Casio WK-1630 keyboard that I want to hook to my mixer. I have searched the forums and came up with this explanation from a post, but it seems that a mixer is needed. I read that you dont have to have a mixer to hook up the two, but am not sure about the reliability of that post... Heres the guide...



Connecting a Keyboard to the MPC:

Keyboard Settings:
MIDI OUT to MPC MIDI IN
Local Control OFF
Make sure its in Multi-Mode
Route Audio Outs(headphone out if stereo out isnt available) to your Mixer

MPC Settings:
MIDI OUT to Keyboard MIDI IN
Turn DRUM to MIDI 1A or 1B(most likely 1A)
Route Audio OUTS(stereo outs or headphone out) to your mixer

Cables Required:MIDI(2) and Audio Cables(depends on how many outs the gear has)

Example:
Say you have a bass on the keyboard and it is on Channel 2(track 2 for some keyboards with onboard sequencers)

Then the MPC should be set to MIDI:2A

So basically whatever the sound in the keyboard is the number should be the same on the MPC.

Channel 1 or Track 1=MIDI 1A
Channel 2 or Track 2=MIDI 2A


So, is a mixer needed? If not, where do I route the audio outs? Currently I just have a computer speaker system hooked into one of the stereo out ports using a 1/4" adapter.

You have midi cables but no mention of audio? Do you want to hear the Mixer through your MPC? If so you will need to run the audio outs of the keyboard to the line ins on the MPC.

Mixer? I want to hear the keyboard through the MPC, using the keyboard's internal sound bank. I want to do this without a mixer.

From what I gather in the latter sentence, you are saying this is possible without a mixer...

My bad I meant Keyboard not mixer. Everything in my reply applies to making it work witout a mixer. Sorry for the F up. What thru me off is cuz you did the same thing in the original post haha

Hahahahahahaha oh man, thats hilarious. Thanks alot for the help.

So I went home this weekend and tried to get it all hooked up, much to no avail. The manual for the Casio is as confusing as manuals come. Heres my setup.

Casio WK-1630: MIDI In, MIDI Out, Audio Port, Headphone Port

Its MIDI menu is as follows...

Internal and External button, which I assume is for the clock.
Local
General Midi Mode
Bulk Send
Bulk Receive

Theres a couple more options, I just cant recall them off the top of my head.

I did a LOT of trial and error, but was never able to make it work. HELP

There is only one audio jack on the back of the keyboard, I believe it said "assignable"

im not exactly sure what u are saying,,can u take pics.....
do you have anything running from the headphone jack on the keyboard?
or just midi?

I have nothing running from the headphone port (located on the front of keyboard). But I do have an audio line running from the "assignable" port (located on the back of the keyboard).

where r u running the audio port "to" from the keyboard?

im not to good with midi..but if sampling is what u want to do,,then all u need is this



assuming ur headphone jack on ur keyboard is 3.5mm.....just plug that into ur headphone jack and the 1/4 plugs to the "in" on your mpc....

and then in order to hear ur keyboard through ur mpc,u have to go into record mode (mode + pad5)
and then turn the timing to what u desire
hit play on your mpc and key away my friend

AHHHHH, I didnt have an audio cable that was split like that. I assume that would be the problem. MUCHO THANKS

Well I got it all hooked up with the new audio line, and there is still a HUGE problem. You can BARELY here a faint sound coming out of the speakers on full blast. Everything is up to 100% volume on both the MPC and Keyboard. Also, the instrument doesnt change as I change it on the keyboard. Gahhh someone put me outta my misery!

do you have your record vol turned up...what r u running it through??comp speakers,reciever,soundcard,,,,just trying to get it going for ya!!
