obviously. but this argument is poppy cosh. akai was on the money with drum machines back in the day, good for them. its now 2009, and we wouldnt even have an akai if numark didnt buy them up. they put out "new" models that just knock off the concept of the old models. we buy them cuz an mpc is an mpc. it has the pads, sampling, and awesome sequencer that you'd be hard pressed to come up with a way to make it better... it hasnt changed since the 80s. they expanded the ram, put some 2009 bells and whistles (usb, hard drive, compact flash), use cheaper parts to keep the price down. and you got yourself a company thats now back in business selling the same machine they were selling years ago but in an updated form. we're lucky we got new mpcs at all, the price is right too. get your groove on for under $400 with a used 1k! the new linndrums gunna be expensive. so if you really want that "innovation" that the new mpcs arent cutting edge enough, cough up the dough. i dont wanna sit there for a 3k to load in the mean time tho... sorry charlie.

True there, but I wasnt only talking bout the hardware specs and all.. as you know the Japansese guy has made himself a better operating system than the whole Akai team.. that just tells something.

All the Stores have no mpc-1000 in Stock and in 2 weeks is the "musikmesse"...

And why do they have a site for a mpc-3500?

http://www.akai-pro.de/produkte/mpc3500.html

That's funny...

Akai should have named the MPC 2500...the MPC 3500. The MPC 3000 can't touch the power of the 2500.

YOU ARE THE MOST ANNOYING "YES MAN" "COMPANY SLAVE" I EVER MET ON HERE. I BET YOUE 2500/5000 WONT LAST 10 YEARS LET ALONE LAST LONGER THAN A 3000/4000 ---- DAMN MORON.

Last longer? What are you implying? I actually owned all of these products.

The MPC 3000/4000 needs as much repair work as any MPC (with the exception of the MPC 1000s old pad design). The MPC 2500/5000 are robust models..and I suspect they will still be in use 10 years from now like all other MPCs. What you are saying to me today is very similar to what others have said about me when I was in the forums talking about the love I had for the MPC 3000 and 4000  I am sure the same will happen when I am here talking about the MPC 6000 and 7000.

Here is a recap of my experiences with MPCs:
1997- Bought by first MPC..the MPC 2000. Loved everything about it with the exception of long sample editing processing times. The data wheel is the best of any MPC and the sequencer (quantize) is probably tighter than all other MPCs. Even when you make a mistake when recording, the results sound good. However, it was difficult to upgrade (memory, expansion boards, etc)for the novice user.

1999- Bought the MPC 2000XL which was a nice upgrade to the 2000. It had a faster processor and the OS allowed use of 4 programs in a sequence. Chopping of samples into equal parts was a nice touch.

2000- Bought my first MPC 3000. Although it didn’t have any of the sample editing features, it was simple and straight forward to use. When I relied less on sampling (outside of drums) this was my MPC of choice.

2002- Bought the MPC 4000. It offered numerous features never before seen in an MPC. It was ahead of its time. In fact, it had way too much. It lost the intuitive feel of the earlier models. After owning it for 6 months, I sold it and my MPC 3000, and picked up the MPC 3000LE.

2004- Bought the MV-8800. I used it alongside the MPC 3000LE. I loved the sample editing functions with the external LCD. In fact, that is the only thing I liked about it. Eventually, I realized that I wasn’t using it fully and sold it. I replaced it with the MPC 2000XL-SE.

2005- I sold both the MPC 3000LE and 2000XL-SE for two MPC 25000s. This was the best move I ever made. I was rockin the MPC 2500 when everyone were hating on it. Even with the Akai OS, this machine was a beast. After fighting against it so long….I installed the JJ OS1 and then 2. This is still one of the best MPCs ever made.

2008 – Sold my beloved MPC 2500 for the MPC 5000. Again, I was one of its biggest supporters when everyone was hating on it and Akai. Now that OS2 has been released, there isn’t much hating. The OS2 still has some areas I would like to see addressed, but overall, it is an awesome OS. I applaud Akai for their efforts.

2010 to 2011 – I will be looking out for the MPC 5000XL or 6000 to replace my 5000.

Jerome, you really do live in Fantasy Land! I haven't heard anyone speak positively about the 5000. It still is the worst saling MPC ever. OS2 won't make me go out a buy a 5000!

Ontherun, I've seen MPC 60's, 3000's, & 2000's fitted with card readers. I'm using Zip Drives and i don't see a problem with them. The 4000 really does not need it. It packs a hard drive and USB. So, come with something better.

OS 2 of the MPC 5000 addresses most of the complaints people had about it in these forums.

I am not trying to sell you an MPC 5000 or any MPC. As far as coming with something better, I already listed dozen of features that the MPC 5000 has over the 4000..and there are even more when you compare them to another models. While the MPC 4000 has a more powerful sampler (just by a little bit), the MPC 5000 comes out on top with the sequencing (audio and MIDI) as well as external MIDI control.

There is nothing wrong with clinging to your old MPC. No one suggests you should stop using it. Its just that the new MPCs adds a lot of features that long time users have wanted.

i haven't worked with the 5000, but i must say this.
you can't hate the mpc 2500 or the mpc 1000 with jjOSXL. it really is the ultimate beat machine. all the features are great and very usefull the only HUGE minus is that the materials aren't as good as they were in the mpc 60/3000 or 2000.
as it goes for the warm sound, you can get that with external rack samplers such as a s3000 or s950 and still keep all the features of the new mpcs.
i am gadget fan so sometimes i'm thinking about selling my 2500 and buying a 60 or 3000, but then all the features are gone.
and i'm not talking bout the HD or USB cause i don't even use them, but non-destructive chopping, filters etc.
i'm pretty sure that one day i will buy a mpc 3000 just to play with it and have it in my studio, but the 2500 will be the main gear. if something breaks i'll just buy new parts from mpc-stuff and still use the 2500.

oh and one more things

IT'S NOT ABOUT THE GEAR YOU USE BUT ABOUT THE SHIT THAT YOU MAKE WITH IT....

Dilla and Madlib made beats that are better then all your productions taken together on a SP-303. And that box doesn't even have a screen.

The MPC 60, 2000, 3000 & 4000 didn't ever need a JJ OS to make them work properly. It's still the same as haking your MPC. I'm using the last version of the 60II, 2000, 3000, & 4000 released by Akai. I don't know what this NuAkai is doing.

I am impressed that you are using the MPC 60II, 2000, 3000 and 4000. That is a great acomplishment. :P

The OS of the MPC 60, 2000, and 3000 are primitive compared to the Akai OS for the MPC 2500. Does it really matter that JJ has taken the OS to a completely different level? I think not. If you don't know what 'NuAkai' is doing and have no experience with these newer products, why are you acting like you have knowledge on the subject?
