Doesn't seem to be controlled by an Mp. Starting to dougt that projects will be compatable. I also don't see the xOx or 808 style sequencing. I guess there is a free version though. At least we can try it out before buying.

nah, it doesn't look like the mp controls it, but i still think you would be able to move projects from the mpc to the JJ pc sequencer and back. that would be very odd if he didn't keep it compatible between pc and mpc.

If I could load my mpc projects into this thing and it rendered my all my seqs and tracks to waves accurately I'd buy it. JJ has the advantage programming somthing like this because he will be able to accurately replicate the filter and other functions in software.

If the mpc controls the sequencer it will be dope!

It will be the killer to the NI Machine!!

Bring it jj!!!

peace

this JJ sequencer won't be able to do that. note that there is no GPE. so that means no ADSR, no filters, no lfo, etc.

it's just a sequencer: note on & off, velocity, duration, the usual midi stuff... that seems to be about it. it doesn't even seem to have the mpc-specific stuff like sample start, sample end, chop, etc.

if JJ tried to replicate a full mpc in software with filters & everything, i think akai would get serious this time and shut him down immediately. japanese secret-service police ninjas would be busting thru his windows in the middle of the night and carrying him & his computer off to jail.

I wasn't saying what it does, I was saying what I'd want a program like this to do. And you might be right, but I think its too early to speculate based on some early videos.

Also I can't see anything illegal in making a program to play MPC SEQs and PGMS. All you need is a soft sampler that is capable of reading PGMs and provides the same parameters. You can then use midi to sequence it. The only legal issues would be if he reused Akai code for eg. the filter (which he has already done in his OSs), but this isn't really an issue as it would be possible to program a filter with basically the same response (or better), but where the cutoff and res values correspond to the same freqs and the MPC filter. I've thought about this for a while because I intended (and still do, but maybe at the end of the year) to program a VST that does this.

..there's a new VSTi in Cubase 5, Groove Agent ONE, which is Steinberg's take on a software MPC and can also read MPC .pgm files..

Nice, shame its for Cubase and not standalone. Have you used it?

I know there are other programs out there that can read PGMs (battery does i think, but not 1k pgms, and guru maybe?), but since they are not designed soley with MPC integration in mind they are not the best suited, and i doubt can replicate all the parameters of the mpc sampler faithfully. Also the big point here for 1k users is compatability with JJOS, which I'm pretty certain no one has tackled yet.

Nope, haven't used it, as I have SX3 and no need to upgrade. At the moment it's only available in the full version of Cubase 5, but I can see it being released as a standalone version in the future.

And yeah, no JJOS compatiblity. But then again if you have a 1k with JJOS why would you want a software version of it..

Yeah, It'll be about as usefull to me as an **** on my elbow if it doesn't make projects/sequences/programs that I can use on my MPC...

If he's clever he'll also include an automatic mp3/24bitwav/aiff - 16 bit 44100hz wav file converter and a 2500 (8 outputs extra midi outs jad jada jada ) mode and a 1000 mode (four extra outs 2midi in/out etc etc). OS1, OS2 mode and OS2XL mode aswell.

If he includes some clever bouncing modes that'll be super intelligent aswell(kind of how protools can bounce for backwards compatibility).. maybe I'm dreaming... My only real use for this is intricate arrangments for live use, That'd take hours to play in and name properly on the MPC.

If JJ is clever this thing could pop like pimples...

Now that's a good idea.

How will JJ deal with Latency though? In the NANO pad + JJ sequencer video, the latency is terrible,so it seems.
That's the reason the Mpc's are golden imo as there is no audible latency.. As software you are dependent on some sort of asio, buffer etc.. I think if this works with the hardware with zero latency he might just have something,if not, then why not use Guru,Battery etc. ?
