4 velocity layers ?

hello,

i have samples of each notes of a Rhodes, sampled in ULTRAHIGH, HIGH, MEDIUM,
and SOFT velocity.
when I do a PROGRAM with 4 layers...
ex :
127-110 : ULTRA HIGH
109-100 : HIGH
70-99 : MEDIUM
0-69 : SOFT

it is "unnatural" : when I press with velocity 99 and then 100, the difference
is too important....
do you know a way to do that ?


with OS JJ 4.99 (not OS2)

why is it unnatural? if the jump in volume is too great you can adjust the level of each layer individually.

I think what he means is he expected it to still change the volume of the sample, as well as trigger different samples on each layer, whereas it always triggers them at maximum velocity. EG 110 and 127 both play the hard sample at the same volume, so the difference between 109 and 110 is extremely obvious. or is that not how JJOS1 works?

In which case it just needs some tinkering to get the crossover points smooth, which is likely as the problem hasn't really been explained very well...

I don't think it's volume dude is talking about. I noticed the same thing. The change in the feel of the sound is abrupt. Try sampling again if it really bothers you, but in the reality of making a song with these programs the difference is a lot less noticeable unless you are doing fast rolls and things where people are going to hear them side by side a lot.

I am working on a E-Piano-Instrument, too... but I got jj os 2xl and so i only got 3 Layers.

Has any of you figured out how to split the velocity-regions so that it feels "natural"?

Re-recording won't change anything I think...

What I'm talking about is not a difference of volume between two layers for exemple
but a difference of "tone"...

What is needed would be a "crossfade" between the two layers according to the velocity...

It sounds well, but tell me if you can create a PGM with the 4 velocities in it... so that the
difference is not "abrupt"...

have you tried overlapping the velocity zones? e.g. sample1: 127- 70 sample: 2 90-0

With this Rhodes PGM with 3 velocity layers, it sounds "unnatural" : when I press a note with velocity 99 (layer MEDIUM) and then 100 (layer HARD), the difference of sound/timbre between the different velocity layers is too important....

Is there a "fade between velocity layers" feature ?

Just to update everyone..

The current version of JJOS Free 3.16 and OS1 both support 4 velocity layers.

My good percussion, Rhodes and Wurli SF2s have 4 layers, perfect for the Akai. However..

OS2XL does not support 4 velocity layers.

Very friendly & instant communication with sales/support let me know; "Probably, this bug is fixed by the next version."

I am returning to OS1 until 4 layers are available again in a new version.
