MIDI PROBLEM: First note not playing at 001.01.00

Hi guys,

I have an MPC 2000 hooked up through MIDI as Master and a Yamaha MO 6 as slave.

I'm using the Motif as a Sound Module.

Here's what's happening.

I have my sequence set for 2 bars on the MPC.

When I hit record on the MPC, if I play a note on the Motif at 001.01.00, the sound gets cut off/or I won't hear the entire note. even when the loop comes back around, that note will not play at the beginning of the sequence.

Has this happened to anyone before?

It's driving me insane. I can't find any reason why this should be happening.

Any help would be MAJORLY appreciated.

THE MANUAL HAS BEEN READ...just in case anyone wonders.

I've been using the MPC since 1998 and never had this issue.

So it's definitely a crazy unseen before issue.

so your slaving your mo6 to the mpc and using the motif rack? why even bother to slave at all? Might have something to do with that? maybe? i had a similar problem with reason but it was b/c of latency issues. Could you be a little more descriptive in how your gear is set up?

It's a MO 6 Keyboard...61 Keys.

I have it connected to my MPC via MIDI. I am using it as a sound module meaning I am only using it for the sounds.
I'm not using the sequencer on the keyboard, the patterns, songs, anything.

I am using the MPC sequencer and playing the keys to that.

So I set my MPC to record 2 bars. I hit record on my MPC...the metronome starts. I press a key on the keyboard at the beginning of the first bar....lets say a synth sound for example...and the sound is cut off/clipped. It happens when I change the sounds...so it'll happen no matter what type of sound is played. Anything payed after the beginning of the first bar will be recorded as normal. Even the rest of the sound that was played at the beginning of the first bar if it has a long decay.

It also happens when I trigger the sounds with the pads on my MPC. And it also happens if I simply place the sound at the start of the first bar using Step Edit.

It's baffling me. It has never happened when I used my Mo Phatt. And it never happened when I used to have my KORG.

I just can't figure it out for the life of me. And the only soilution I'm hearing from everyone is to add an extra bar and wait for the second bar to start my loop.

That's not going to work...why? Because it's a work around and I know there is a fix.

Any ideas?

Thats really strange. But that means that the MIDI Note is received by your keyboard. The audio is muted for a short time. Some Controller stuff maybe?

Honestly im baffled. id try connecting it to some other gear. If the pads are even cutting out it may be an internal problem. good luck.

i' m having the same problem with the note skip..
i dont think its a internal flaw ,it seems more like a latency problem

for. ex. what soundcard are you using , i am using the one integrated on my motherboard
i also had a korg (x5) connected and never had an issue with it, so its probably in the controller surface
(m audio midi keyboard)

if you got the problem solved please let me know , if i find out where it comes from i will definitly put it down here

The only difference with my situation is that I'm not recording into my computer. I'm recording to a sequence in the MPC.

So I don't think there is a latency issue.

If I figure it out I'll put the answer here too. But this just doesn't seem to make any sense whatsoever.

What baffles me more is the fact that no one here has heard of this except the two of us?

i am doing exactly the same , i try to record in a sequence within the mpc
it either skips a fraction or when you decide to play it on the next time the first bar comes in it is just being cut out or cut of :<

i just made this set up 2 days ago so my motivation is still high to find out what the problem is ,ill keep you updated

does it do it with every sound or certain ones? I use the motif xs and in the drum kits theres certain sounds that cut others off, mainly the hi hat cymbols, so if u go and try to over dub on it itll get all screwy

i got it with all the sounds i try to record from reason to a sequence in the mpc

Same here.

Every sound. Every Program. The mpc is not getting all of the information from the keyboard. Only on the first note of the first bar.

I set 3 bars. Allowed the first bar to pass and then recorded at the beginning of bar 2. It worked perfectly.

When I moved those 2 bars to a new sequence, the beginning of the first bar cut off again.

So something is preventing the first bar from being able to play the note without getting the very beginning clipped.

It's very frustrating. I'm going to Guitar Center today...I might even take the f*ckin keyboard back. I really can't believe no one on here can help with this problem.

I've been a member here for YEARS. I stopped recording for a couple of years.

I know there are people here saying read the manual, etc. I'm just letting you know that I'm not a newbie.

This is a legitimate issue that has nothing to do with reading the manual.
