I had a question about this as well. When the topic of converters of the mpc making the sound punchier, warmer, more dusty, etc..., comes up there are so many interesting varying opinons. If you sample a sound on the mpc from the 1/4 inputs, the mpc is taking the analog source and turning it into digital, using the mpc's A/D converters, right? Then if you were to run that sound from the spdif out on your mpc into your sound card's spdif in, it is bypassing your sound card's A/D converters putting the exact copy of the originally sampled sound from the mpc into your DAW, and only using the D/A converters of the interface/soundcard to play the sound through your monitors, correct?
So if you were to track your beats through 1/4 inch cables your are using one more unneccessary conversion that will degrade the sound, right? Once you sampled a source from the mpc 1/4 inch in is the moment you capture the "sound" of the mpc converters. All other conections should use spdif, unless you have a preamp conected to your mpc that you want the sound of, or if you wanted the the sound sampled in spdif to begin with because you wanted an exact copy of that sound, correct?
I guess you could add a D/A converter to your monitors, but I think treating your room would be a better investment. Please feel free to school me if I have anything incorrect here.
