16 levels of sound on the 4k

I know I'm not an idiot. I can't seem to get the 16 levels of sound to work on my 4k. I've tried everything but can't seem to figure it out. Any HELP provided would be much appreciated.

you have to tell us a little more than that,,,what have u tried? whats everything?

if you've tried everything,than theres something in the hardware its self,causing this...maybe a tact..does everything else on the board work?
all lights on?
does anything happen when u press the button?
does the 16levels screen appear?

Ok Maybe I am an idiot. ahah! When I push the 16 levels button nothing pops up on the screen and the levels are just of volume. I've tried looking into to finding a cure for this but to no avail.

check your OS

my guess is the tact is ur problem.

It was the os. Downloaded and installed it and works fine now. Thanks so much for the help.

That is great for you that you got it fix. However I would offer to use your keygroup program next time you get a bigger range of keys to play and it is build in your 4k.

glad i could help out.. i had the same problem when i picked up my 4000 brand new used i was so use to using 16 levels on my other mpcs i was so angry that the 4000 had no 16 levels when i looked at the os is was so old lol i got it to work and list of other features came with the OS.

I found 16 levels quite useful as it is fast way to check your sound, besides it's kinda hard for person without keyboard to fully use keygroup program (like me good that I will have one very soon).

Yeah you are right. It was just a simple OS update to get that function. I was like that too when I first got my 4k but later once I got more into understanding my keygroups I was like wow it was just my old 2xl way of thinking as I didn`t realize at the time it was in a way already built in with the keygroup programs.




Hmmmmm in less than a minute I did a quick psuedo setup of 16 levels by.

First keygroup program.

Go to pitch page in programs within the span section low and high I hit the pads 1 and next pad 16 to set the span.

Then I highlight the sample, press the window button and I have the outline of the sample settings, I next when to Original note and set it to whatever pad I want and I had a quick psuedo 16 level set up. Of course it is way faster with the 1.50 OS update but in case for future users without the lastest OS. Less than a minute. Once I got a midi controller then it was on.

However if you got a motif or workstation nearby. I work with a midi controller you can use your 4k more like a workstation synth or rompler the pitch bend, module wheel control>>cutoff, tweak the sound with the knobs and sliders. A midi keyboard makes the 4k complete in my book. But that is something else.

Well this video if you care to see is on Mainstage but using a midi controller or keyboard midi to the 4k is pretty much the same way you mapped across the keys, you assign controllers to the parameter via program matrix and play the patch and each layer in the Mainstage is akin to a keygroup keyspan with one keygroup program in the 4k.

Now I realized the original posters question and needs is different and the answers have been posted but I`m posting this to show another way of working with sounds just like a synth. Most of us started out on drum programs and we are very used to that way of working. But even RZA, Aye, Premo, and others with the ASR-10 learned the keygroup way of working.

Give it a try if you like.

4k is a custom rompler/synth load it up with your favorite keygroup programs.
