spyrus external drive???

yo i just got the vailixi 3.5 upgrade and am currently trying to get my MPC3000 to be able to save to my new 'spyrus' external drive (one of the main reasons for updating to the 3.5) but its still asking me for a floppy? Any ideas? it seems like it should be rather simple.. maybe im overlooking something....

If you have the Spyrus connected and set correctly.

You will need to format and make active the Spyrus first.

Select on the MPC3000, DISK, OPTION 9 and then the option to make a SCSI disk active.

Set the MULTI SECTOR TRANSFER mode to OFF.

Now on the MPC3000 select DISK, OPTION 9 and then the option to format a SCSI device.

Select AUTO for the SCSI target.

Press soft key one to start the format process.

The MPC3000 at this point will scan the SCSI bus for a suitable target.

If the Spyrus is visible to the MPC3000 on the SCSI bus then it should flash a couple of times and formatting will continue.

An important note here regarding Spyrus drives.

Many models rely on the active power termination supplied to the SCSI bus via an MPC3000 in order for their termination power circuit to work.

If the Spyrus is not visible to the MPC3000 at all, even if seemingly connected and terminated correctly ...

It's a strong indicator that the SCSI fuse on your MPC3000 SCSI board is blown.

There is also an internal jumper you need to have set that I don't believe that guy selling on eBay sets correctly. It is the one that enables 5-volt termination power to the bus. Rohan is right (of course) when he says you may have a problem with your fuse but I have found that setting this jumper will often fix the problem (without having to have the MPC worked on). PM me if you need help setting that jumper.

I had several people PM and ask me if this termination power option was available on the original MCDISK (the one with the wall-wart power supply). Unfortunately, no. For whatever reason, MPL didn't implement SCSI termination power as an option on that model. So either the sampler will need to provide the 5-volt termination power (as all of them should) or another drive in your SCSI chain will have to do it, such as a zip drive.
