Should I add to it or buy a 1000

I am have a stock mpc 200xl and thinking of getting the 8 outs, and efx. I do have a flash drive also. I was thinking about upgrading to a 1000. Any pros and cons that will help me make my decision??

keep the xl

keep the xl and save up for a 1000!

or sell me the xl for 300 bucks. those are your choices.

Personally, I would max out my XL and keep using that. I think the build quality of the XLs are superior to the 1000's. Metal chassis vs. plastic chassis...

I tend to use my FX board much more than I ever use the 8-outs. Don't know how anyone else feels. I would pick up a used FX board off eBay -- they're usually around 150 bucks and worth the investment if you're serious about using your XL.

To me, going from a 2000 to a 1000 is not an upgrade, but a downgrade.
The sound on the 1000 is nothing compare to a 2000 (classic or XL, even if the classic is a bit better IMO).

But about the 8 outputs, you can see the topic I created about it.
To be honest, I think it sucks. I you pan a sound, the panning won't be reflected in the 8 outs, only on the main stereo out. It also sucks regarding the effect board, as you can only use one channel at the time tru the 8 outs.

Still, I would recommand to keep the XL, add the FX board and forget about the 8 outs. But that's just me

No it does not, only the sides are plastic, and the outer skin. The damn thing weighs a ton.

FX board isn't worth it. Get the 8-outs.

Panning doesn't work on 8-outs because you're sending it through a mono channel on the 8 outs, no stereo, no panning. You pan it in Pro-Tools or whatever DAW you're using anyway.

XL + 8 outs is better than a 1000 w/ 4 outs.

If you want to track out to Cubase, just pick up any interface w/ 8 ins. Tascam has those FW ones with the mixers, probably find one used for cheap.
