Dopeness :) Nice vid

Never thought of doing it like that, even though I'm a xl user this looks like it can give interesting results.

Actualy lately I preffer chopping on the S-3200xl to the MPC, I find it more natural
I got a vid too on how to chop on the S3000/3200 posted on the Studio Enviroments of this forum

seemed interesting. the result left a little to be desired for me though. but i'll play around with that technique and see what i get out of it.

I just messed with this technique a bit and I can honestly say I'd rather spend the 3 extra minutes in ZnEdit and chop it manually. I tried sequencing these 'chops' and it's **** up at best. Turning other tracks on and off effected the track with the sequenced 'chops'?? Also copying bars on the track I sequenced made the whole thing sound different i.e. copying 1:00:00-3:00:00 to 3:00:00 would make 1:00:00-5:00:00 sound different than before I copied. Don't even try mixing your beat with track velocities either. ZnEdit > decay/velocity chop method

honestly i think u did something wrong bro. and as far your taking on mixing it with track velocities why wouldnt you? the sample stays the same level bro. not saying its better than ZnEdit either. Just something different you know.

thanks for your input.....

Also got two others on how to use the thing more as a synth and multi-sample

I tried mixing with the velocity of the sequenced track and it made it sound different, changed the chops. I followed every step of the video. Something just doesn't seem right about this method and I ran into too many wtf's during my experimentation with it. Like I said, I would much rather chop it the way I usually do with ZnEdit but to each his own. If this method works for you by all means use it, and enjoy.

No wonder that it sound different Fung. When you play with velocity it changes the startpoints of the chops.
I messed with this a time ago and didn't find it very useful.
Here is an explanation what happens.

When you set the "velocity to start" the velocity of the notes you are playing changes the startpoint.

When you hit the 16Level Button (with the velocity setting) the pads are all playing the sample you choosed at 16 different velocity levels.

So far so good but there are some problems with this method:

1. It is not possible to change the startpoints of the chops cause the velocity values in the 16Level Mode are fixed.

2. Since the velocity parameter has a value range of only 127 steps its more a corse setting of a startpoint instead a fine setting. The "resolution" is not fine enough.

ok for problem No.1 there is a solution. You can simply go to the step edit and change the velocity of the chops till it fit right. You dont need the 16Level at all. Just go to the step edit hit the pad, change the velocity value while pressing F6 (PLAY), note the numbers of interesting start points, program the pad on every 8th (for example) and use the numbers you've noted to change the start points on them. You may have noticed that the beginning of the sample is represented by the velocity value 127 (highest value) and the more you lower that value the startpoint go through the sample.

Now if your sample is shorter than 5 seconds you also may have noticed that some of the lower values didnt play a sound at all. The reason is that the 127 values are fixed on the 5 seconds. So you cant get a finer resolution (see problem 2) by taking a shorter sample. You also be unable to set a velocity value that play from a startpoint beyond 5 seconds. For example. if your sample is 8 seconds long you'll not be able to set a startpoint at 6,5 seconds. The velocity value 1 will always set the startpoint to 5 seconds.

So i think its very useful to tune the sample (need to be tuned outside of the MPC) so it has 5 seconds.
The good thing about that is that the values wil almost stay the same as long as your sample has the same measure.
For a 1 bar sample the 8ths are at the following values

1 - 127
2 - 82
3 - 64
4 - 49
5 - 37
6 - 27
7 - 18
8 - 9

I guess you have noticed that english is not my mother language :)

Oh and dont get me wrong. I dont want to hate on that method. Its just nothing that I would use. respect to dantelewis for sharing his knowledge.
