using mpc as traditional samler with midi?

Yeah I remember my old ASQ-10 having that too, and I used the feature quite a lot when I still had it, which is probably why I assumed it would still be available in the 1k when I was unable to find a clear answer..

You'd think a newer version of a machine would upgrade, expand and improve on the features of it's predescessor. Makes sense, right? Apparently not to Akai.

On a brighter note, now I have that out of my system, there's still a possibility that multitimbral midi recieve will be added to JJ OS2XL.

active track only...unfortunately. luckily for me it doesn't effect how i work on the 1k, since this is the machine i cut my teeth on anyway, i'm very accustomed to keeping my hands on it 90% of the time

it sends midi on all channels... but can't receive on more than one... I'm still holding out on xl or any future versions until the multitimbral midi input feature is added. I don't want to buy another sampler just for this. This topic comes up from time to time so I think it's legitimate to keep hoping and asking for it to be added. I'm getting by with just one channel midi in for now in OS2 but I would definitely like more.

if you want a sampler with multi-tim then pick up a s-series rack sampler.

That is very strange, because I don't want another sampler in my setup (to date) just because MPC is a "MIDI production station". MPC engine is already based on S-series samplers (as far as I know) and I think if MPC can play multi-tim using internal sequencer, then it can play using external midi. I think that software is a problem here. Yes, I know that JJ said that this task is hard to accomplish, but anyways is a feature that MUST for samplers.

And for now, I cannot use my DAW to edit midi files and listen to what is played back (all channels).

As an alternative, try recording the output of your pc + emu into the mpc's audio tracks to record your basslines. Or, if you want more editing/quantizing capabilities you can chop up that audio sample and place each note in the correct place, change velocity, etc.

if you look on the 1000 and 2500 you will see that MPC stands for Music Production Centre, Akai have dropped Midi from the name, which might explain where this functionality went.
