5 reasons why i should upgrade from OS1?

Although the answers prob wouldn't be that difficult to find, I'm still gonna keep an eye on this thread. I'm still on OS1 but that's because I've chucked enough money at my MPC1000 that I just feel bad if I were to buy another upgrade (unless I felt it really warranted it of course).

Just download it and try it out. It works perfectly, but you are anable to save anything until you pay for the password. There are a few things in version 2 that I would not want to do without. For starters, I really like the main screen. It shows you a small grid of your sequence. After having this, it just helps me identify what sequence I'm editing. It just kind of makes a sequence a bit more tangable to me if that makes any sence. Also I love the Loop editing function that allows you to sequence like an old 808 or analog sequencer. A really fun way to work, and it often lets you create something you would never have come up with otherwise. I also really like some of the little things like the ability to toggle between loop off, on, and alternate with just one button. I'm a big fan of alternate looping, so this comes in really handy for me. Version 2xl has some really great features as well, but right now I'm back on version 2.

2xl specific, excluding adsr

adsr lets you force your samples into shape instead of just asking them nicely
quantize strength lets you spend less time editing your performance
sample xfade lets you create endlessly looped tones (no more "choppy chops")
gpe/"pgm trim" improvements let you create programs in 1/10th of the time
mode+data wheel turn shortcut lets you change tracks in most modes quickly

Only discovered that yesterday (when looking for how to highlight and copy more than just a beat) and it made me happy

1>MAIN screen is, simply; hard for roger to beat on his new box if it ever gets built.
2>customizable MODE and NUMERIC buttons screen display
3>Vel is back in main screen (there is a god or santa claus or whatever)
4>Text Copy & Paste (!)
5>should be #1 really: iterative quantize, or TC STRENGTH

this alone is almost worth the upgrade. it was soooo frustrating to need to go to the main screen to switch tracks.

Lots of reasons, my favs are grid in main screen, Non destructive chop and instruments..
Try it first.

Do it. In order of importance:

1. ADSR
2. Main screen grid
3. Sample list improved (alphabetical, delete multiple samples at once)
4. Non-destructive chop
5. Pattern mode

Nym! This Sample Xfade sounds very intresting, can you tell more about it or link something about that feature?

It seems like most of it has been covered but I just wanna get behind the other guys(pause, no homo) and mention how great the TC strength, and looping function are!! Although the lack of simult is still a pain in the ass!!! But thats a nother story...

^ Yup you might wanna upgrade to OS2 and skip XL, if you use simult pad.

there's no autochromatic in os 2 ?, is that correct

si mon essay. no auto chrom in 2. but you can set a blank pgm and always start with it. just a work around. means you only have to program the chromatic side of things once

* It is time for me .... no excuses anymore - Akai OS is due for the bin right about now. Yeh, I tried JJ Free and it was ok ... but all these goodies in the OS2, and for only $50 or so .... this is one of them 'mjst do' situations for me.
