how do you do this on the4000?

Go to program matrix and set up the values like he said.

Vel>>>Level aka Amp

Vel>>>Start 100

Then program page pitch page polyphony set to 1 for mono and go to zone and have the sample play set to no loop aka note off. Then follow the rest of what he said.

Just a different in terms and the layout. I haven`t tried it yet just I understand the layout of my gear. It`s all in the manual just have to understand what the words mean and be patience enough to understand what you have.

The VEL to LEVEL should be set to zero in the mod matrix
The VEL to SAMPLE START to 100 ....
... but if you modulate the start point with an lfo or with velocity in this case, you can only go as far as 9999, which is not enough to chop up a 1 bar loop. The amount "9999" is about the length of a kickdrum

Sorry dude no luck either. I remember there was a post similar to this back on the 3k or something but no dice. I might of miss something more than likely.

However still I chop by regions cuz like you said the start is very slight as for as depth. It is late so sleep on it.

Good luck to ya.

Update on this not much. But on the 4k you should set your sample end to under 40000 to 30000 to get the trick to work. Seems to be that the start is set to work with short samples. Any longer or past this and no die. Later you can go by to zones and adjust the start offset as you like. It is ok but I rather chop it up naturally took a lot of experimenting to get it to work.

I test it out with a kick drum first start worked fine. then a long loop shorten down the end until I got the same effect. Hmmn an idea is to try adjusting the length I got to rest it been a late night working on tweeter.

Correction under a 100,000 sample and its good to go.

Basically you have to go to Sample Edit page and shorten the sample end to under 100,000 or less for it to take any effect.

Take a short sample like a kick drum and set it up like before and it works.

I observe the length of the sample something like 28000 samples, so I inserted a vocal phrase loop and start playing around with the sample length aka sample end in the SAMPLE EDIT page until I got it to work just like the short sample.

It is up to you don`t give up quickly though keep at it. Was it worth it so so. I still prefer this dude method. Just sample in the pieces you want no region slicing at all. Take a bit of time but patience is the key to get it like you want. All on the same 2000 like the other dude.
