Direct Recording or Is AKAI OS ever better than JJOS ?

I'm still getting to grips with my mpc 2500 and am alternating between between akai os (latest) and the free jjos.
previously - i had an mpc 1000 and had the paid version of jjos - however over this weekend i was really enjoying the 'direct record' function and according to the comparison chart - direct record is not listed in any of the jjos versions ?
is this right - a lot of my music involves vocals over a sequence so direct recording works really well.

Did I mis-read something or if I do go for JJOS do I really lose out on direct recording ?

its a name change, thats all.
JJOS2 and JJOSXL "Audio Tracks" are way easyer and smoother to use than the Akai versions.
it auto trims the START and END points for you, and when you drag your WAV file into Protools its nice and clean.
no need to trim anything.
unlike the Akai OS, its sort of like the Roland MV-8000 audio tracks just better.
I used to own a MV-8000 for 3 years and sold it because JJOS is much faster to do things.

I realize that you gave a wink with that, but don't give this guy incorrect information. "Audio Tracks" are NOT just a name change from the akai Direct Record. I find audio tracks useless for my purposes and direct record should be added to the JJOS but as of yet it has not.

Audio tracks can't overlap from the end of the sequence to the beginning of the sequence which is a huge drawback in my opinion. you also can't have two separate samples on the same audio track that overlap eachother.

and if you want audio tracks to work in song mode, I think you'd have to get OS2XL which will handicap the simult feature from the earlier versions of the JJ OS.

I really don't know why Direct Record hasn't been added yet. there's no reason why Direct Record and Audio Tracks can't co-exist, and it shouldn't be too difficult to implement seeing as you can already sample with the sequence playing.

ugh.. this still drives me crazy...

I miss that too!

There is the posibillity to set the record input to "master out", but that doesnt seem to work.
