im thinking about switching from the 1000 to the 2000xl.. the reason i wanna switch is cause im hearing A LOT of problems about the 1000 that cost a lot of money to repair.. and i hear the 2000xl is a very reliable machine.. what do you guys think?

I would think it would be cheaper to beast-out the 1k. I came in around $500, with 128mb ram, HDM10 and a 40gb hard drive, three midi cables, two 75 ohm spdif cables and a footswitch. The whole thing is honestly built like my '79 Town Coupe and when my pads inevitably go out, so the hell what? $180 of good investment, baby!

$.02

EDIT: 3.08 is free. Young Beast Status.

Wait until you have "pad problems" then worry about it.

The odds that a 2nd hands 2kxl will die on you are as big as the odds that a brand new 1k will die on you.
But a 1k with JJOS has more features, better storage options and faster processors.
And I believe it's easier to find replacement parts for the 1k then the 2kxl

Nothing is wrong with the mpc2kxl, its just that the mpc1k w/jjos is a BEAST! I was in your shoes a year ago with the chance to cop a 2kxl. I read about JJOS and tried it out and have not looked back. It sucks how Nu-akai makes us pay for a faulty pad fix. My pads are going out now after 1 1/2 years of use so i will be getting the pad fix soon. An earlier post stated that you would be better off "beasting out" your 1000. I agree. You can purchase memory on ebay dirt cheap (like under $30) (ebay search: mpc memory). And bang away at them sh*tty pads til they start going out and then cop the upgraded pads. In the meantime stash away $15-$20 here and there so when the time is right you can cop the pad fix which is $180. Like i said the 2kxl is a dope machine, but a souped up mpc1000 in my opinion murders the 2kxl. (This is coming from someone who periodically uses the 2kxl from time to time over my boys crib.)
