If you get the eight outs, you gonna quadruple your productivity. Actually, more than that. This will give you a digital in/out as well, so you can sample from your audio card etc, with no signal loss.
Anyway, the best way to do this stuff is to lock your MPC to cool edit's clock. I don't know what those screens are like, but you wanna be sending
Midi time code to the MPC, and then press shift+MIDI/sync. Set that screen to whatever midi cable is coming OUT of your computer, which (hopefully) you have sent MTC from cool edit on. Set the frame rate in both the MPC and cool edit to 30 frames per second. Leave a boar at the begining of your song grid to give the MPC time to lock to it. That mean in song mode, in the MPC, you have to leave a blank 1 bar sequence as the first step.
With the XL, it will lock and follow code every time you start cool edit, if you do everything correct. With a regular 2000, you have to press play/start first, then the MPC will say 'waiting for timecode' until you press play on cool edit.
If doesn't make sense yet, you need to fisrt find the screens in cool edit that will make it the master clock, send midi time code out of your midi posrt/ interface attached to the computer, and also where to set the framerate as well.
