One thing I don't like about these forums, the original post is fine and all, ranting is fine with me. But you guys act like AKAI should do whatever fits YOUR specific needs, which, unfortunately for all of you is never going to happen. The original post is actually logical, and JustBlaze's critique of it is all spot on and fully explained.

You can't say something is "wacker" than something else and be taken seriously.

I am really impressed with AKAI past present and future, for a company with a very niche market, they do quite well and put out good products.

That said, having limitations is what makes the MPC so great in the first place I think. Damu has it all right with his state of mind on it. Sometimes putting limitations in place can result in better music, not to mention the knowledge you will gain from the process.


I come mainly from animation, so I have been using software for a long time, it is what I know, but from what I have seen, with music, and animation, placing certain restrictions is a good way to go. Whether you use an MPC, which has natural limits or software which has much less limits, but you can easily put them in place yourself. In fact I have been trying to do this for awhile, really learn the ins and outs of something, and then cut yourself off from it and see what you can do, it is pretty amazing what one can accomplish on any MPC quite honestly.

I think that is also the REAL reason people don't like software as much sometimes, it isn't about all the software instruments and things, more about how much can really be done to a sound. There is so much that can be done it takes focus on what is really important

Basically, NO MPC IS GOING TO MAKE BAD MUSIC SOUND GOOD, OR GOOD MUSIC SOUND BAD, same goes for software, or any other way to make music, an MPC or computer, doesn't do a damn thing without someone putting their effort into it.

i find it ridiculous that the latest mpc even has compactflash... I would have figured they would have completely switched to SDHC or at least SD by now.....


I wonder if we will even see a newer mpc within the next 5 years. (or do we have to wait for alesis to make something new first)

mmh, CF isnt that out, many pro Cameras use it. I think they kept it because its interface is bassicaly IDE, so no new bus/chipset is needed.
I more see nearly all the other technicals features as outdated.

of course, it is simpler... but some people here managed to get SD working in their 2000xl's, so that is just further proof that it should be a piece of cake for them to slap SD in their machines.

people seem confused about the inclusion of the hdr and va synth in the 5k

seems pretty obvious to me, akai felt the need to compete with the existing mv8000 that has a mono synth and linear audio recording and the forthcoming linn drum ii which may or may not do hdr but will certainly have some killer synthesis in it
