kick n snare simultaniously?

Does anyone use the technique of using a kick n snare simultaniously but pitching the kick up a 3rd? I was focusing in on a tight beat in the movie "whats the worst that can happen" today and i think i noticed that the beat went like: kick and then kick(3rd up) + snare, I know that its basicly up to the producer but could someone tell me some info or somewhere i could read about ish like that? THANKYOU.. PEEEACE

Probably doing it so that the Kick Doubles as a bassline kind'of so that it is still very minimal...

Try layering the kick with another kick pitch shifted or a bass patch, or with varied attack settings.....!!!

i personally dont like beats that do this......i think it looses the satisfaction of the boom boom bap; bu t thats just IMO.

That's a good technique, man, originally from the disco era.
Pitching the kick a little different, or using an entirely different kick
under the snare, will give that bottom if the snare part doesn't. Also, if this is varied from snare to snare, it makes the beat breath and sound alot less digital. If you mix it properly, you you won;t really hear it as a kick under a snare, it'll just give it more power. Or, you could use the same kick as the kick track, if you really want that '4 on tha floor' disco feel.

it does give the snare move umph and power
at just the right volume (barely noticeable) it can give the snare more power..but the other dude is right 2. it can kill the boom bap sound if it is pitched wrong and the volume is too high...

not neccasary true u can program dancehall at 4\4 with the same feel if u have good timing i do it all the time

I do 4/4 too - I find it much simpler actually, but that's probably just because that's how I learned it. BTW - what are some dancehall riddims that use this trick, because of the riddims I've heard, they've all had just kick,kick,snare or snare,snare,kick or various updates on that basic structure.
