MPD...

is it worth buying? i feel it wont give me very portable means of making music like the mpc would because i am barely home and dont have time to set it up on my computer. I would just like opinions to see if its anything looking into.

bear in mind that you'll need some sort of host daw for the mpd to work -- reason, abelton, etc.

for the money, i'd get a used mpc 500. battery operated, integrated compact flash, most importantly: no computer needed. just turn it on, load your samples/programs and your off. finish when you're at home and can plug everything in and track out.

Have you worked with software before? I can help you set a MIDI controller up nicely with FL. I don't have an MPD, but I used to. IMO, if you're looking for a MIDI drum pad, go minimal. Just get a controller with well, just pads! Trigger Finger, nanoPad, and the Axiom 25 (if you need keys as well) all look nice.
